It was fortunately quite empty in the library that day, and perhaps even more fortunate that the people who were going to use the computers took one look at that Tatsumi kid and decided to go without today. And it was really, really quite fortunate that the librarians were too concerned with other important things to notice that one boy had been sitting at a computer without moving for so long.
He'd shoved his fist into his mouth the moment the page loaded to prevent the squeal - uh, sigh, sighs were manly, right? - from becoming audible, and he was vaguely aware that he'd broken the skin, trickles of blood running down every so often. He hadn't cared enough to remove the fist, of course, because damn they were some cute puppies. And sure, they weren't doing much, but every time he contemplated closing the window a tail would wag or an ear would twitch and he'd be resisting the urge to coo with a mouth full of fist.
His phone had rung a few times, but he figured it couldn't be that important, so he let it go unanswered. It hadn't been raining before he'd gone inside, and the weather was probably still okay. Probably nothing important. Probably less important than puppies.
He heard the footsteps behind him, knew that one of the librarians had probably caught on and it was time to turn away from the puppies, they'd still be waiting for him when he got home, it's not like he'd be missing that much... He knew all that, and yet his hand refused to click away.
"Kanji, dude, we've been trying to get in touch with... Are those puppies?"
Kanji did not reply. Yosuke raised an eyebrow. "We've been worried something's wrong cause you're not picking up, and you've been looking at puppies?"
Still no reply.
"Kanji? You still with me?"
A puppy stood up on wobbly legs, sneezed, then went back to sleep.
"He-llo~? Kanji?"
The smallest puppy wriggled in its sleep, resting its head on one of the others.
"Kanji. You're gay. Like, really gay. Like, I probably get a little bit more gay every time I hang around you. You're just that gay."
Yosuke frowned.
"Don't you want to beat the crap out of me? Dude, I think this thing has brainwashed you."
And a hand leaned over the mouse, threatening to stop them! Quick as a flash, Kanji gave the alien hand a violent smack, watching with satisfaction as the hand retreated. The puppies were safe.
Yosuke grabbed back his injured hand, and nursed it, apparently bewildered. "What the hell?! I'm going to get the others to see if they can snap you out of it. This just isn't healthy."

"Apart from to crush my hand, nope."
"Aww!" Rise said, clutching her hands to her heart. "Who know Kanji-kun was so... gentle?"
"Did I forget to mention the crushing my hand part?"
"... They are pretty cute."
"Oh no Yukiko, not you too!"
Souji coughed. The others (save for Sanji) turned to face him expectantly.
"We could turn off the library's internet?"
They turned to face Kanji again, who was still staring blankly at the screen.
"Dude, I think that might kill him. Do you really want that on your hands?"
Naoto looked at Kanji thoughtfully. "Perhaps we should try and divert his attention by showing him something he likes even more?"
"Well, like I said, those puppies are pretty cute..."
"Oh!" This time, Rise. "I have an idea! Naoto-kun, come over here!" And without waiting for a response, she grabbed the smaller girl by her arm and pulled her over to the crime novels. The two whispered for a few moments, before Rise dragged a very flushed Naoto back over to them. "Come on, Naoto!"
Face still very red, Naoto bent down (but not very much) and gave Kanji the briefest of kisses on his cheek. The result was almost instantaneous. Kanji spun around from his seat, thoughts of puppies all but gone from his mind.
"Wh-What?!"
Hastily, Chie leaned forward and closed the browser, letting out a sigh of relief at the sight of the desktop. (It was at that exact same moment that all the puppies woke up, and began to play excitedly with one another.)
"Don't I have the best ideas?" Rise asked brightly as they began to make their way out of the library, Kanji still in a daze. "I might not be book smart, but who needs that, really?"
Walking slightly behind, Kanji gave Naoto a sideways look. Still blushing, the girl said nothing, but silently passed the boy a band-aid for his bleeding hand.
The band-aid may, or may not have had puppies on it.
