"Sure." Soji didn't budge from his position, which was in everyone's hearing. This earned him a sharp look from Naoto, whose eyes also flickered towards Kanji when he wasn't looking (which wasn't too hard, Kanji's eyes were fixed at least fifteen centimeters away from Naoto's). Soji shrugged. If Chie hadn't heard him talking back to King Moron she would have thought him a stupid bastard. "So let's move it." He clapped twice. Yosuke, Teddie, and Yukiko sprang after him, Yukiko throwing Chie a slightly apologetic look which Chie returned with a lopsided smile. She turned to her own team, Naoto and Kanji both not looking at each other.
Being a senpai was such a pain sometimes.
"Okay, come on, kids. You heard the boss."
Kanji jerked like someone being awakened from a nap."Y-Yeah! Stay behind me!" He walked, almost ran, in front of them.
"Oi, Kanji!" Chie went after him, and Naoto not too far behind. "If you're too far for us to--argh, sheez. Why do I bother?"
She really didn't expect Naoto to answer the rhetoric. "I believe it is my fault."
Chie thought of the way Kanji stuttered whenever Naoto was around. Damn right it is. "Okay. How?"
Naoto shook her head. "He seemed to dislike me. He would never talked to me."
Kanji stopped in front of yet another door. He yelled at them, "Stay back. I've got this under control."
Before any of them could protest Kanji had kicked the door open, swinging his chair wildly at the same time and hitting a shadow. It was one of those Corrupt Towers, which if Chie remembered correctly was strong to--"Kanji! Fall back!" Its companions, four Justice Swords swung at him at once even as Take-Mikazuchi whipped his thunderbolt around. Tomoe dashed ahead of Chie and Sukuna-Hikona was a blue blur attacking the nearest Justice Swords, but Chie's sense of dread didn't fade; they hadn't encountered this many before--
She kicked the Tower, and Tomoe finished it off with a set of spinning slashes. From her peripheral view, she knew that Kanji had two Justice Swords under control and Naoto the rest of them--
"Naoto!" With a roar, Kanji and his Persona threw off their targets and flew at the shadow lurking behind Naoto. Chie gasped - stupid, stupid, how did I miss something that big?! - but then Naoto shot at it three times and kicked it at the same time Kanji threw his chair at it. Then Sukuna-Hikona finished it off with the flashiest spell that was guaranteed to finish all of the Shadows off.
There was a brief respite in which Chie panted and stilled her heart, though it didn't last long as Naoto suddenly was onto Kanji. "That was unnecessary and reckless."
"'Scuse me?"
"You left yourself wide open to the Shadows which were your responsibilities to begin with." She adjusted her hat, probably to give Kanji the full brunt of her glare. "Thus endangering the rest of us."
Kanji gaped like a fish before regaining his composure, looking just as angry. "You little--"
"You may think me incapable of defending myself--" Chie could have sworn Naoto tiptoed. "But as I have just proven to you--"
Kanji seized her shoulders. "What the hell, Naoto! I--" Then he seemed to realize what he had just done and let go of Naoto, swearing under his breath and turning away. "Argh, dammit!" He said, stomping off somewhere.
