“But surely you must’ve heard rumors, or saw things.”
“...” Rider was thinking, but Naoto could tell he wasn’t that good at it. She waited, though. Rider might not be bright, but he was smart, and he knew more about this place than she did. In any war, knowing the terrain was crucial to victory. “Yeah,” Rider said. “There were rumors of the Amagi Inn being haunted. Burned to the ground years ago. Owners committed suicide, and their daughter, Yukiko-sempai, died in the fire. Think people in town said something about sempai going nuts or whatever, but Yukiko-sempai was always…”
Amagi. Naoto bit her lip. It was an old name, for sure, but she doubted the Amagi were Magi. A true Magus pursued the study of sorcery to the point where he or she became disconnected from the rest of society. Running an inn while pursuing sorcery would be an extremely unlikely path for a Magus to take. On the other hand, if the Amagi Inn had burned down because of magic, the Holy Grail might be attracted to the energy there.
“Take me to where the Amagi Inn used to be,” said Naoto.
Rider nodded. “I’ll get my car,” he said.
“Your… car?”
Rider grinned a shit-eating grin. “It’s my Noble Phantasm. Name’s Take-Mikazuchi, but I got Rokuten Maou as back up, just in case. Take-Mikazuchi’s better if you’re driving at night, since it’s all black.”
“Ah,” Naoto said. She felt a little faint. So this was why Tatsumi had been chosen as Rider. They went outside and Rider summoned his car. It suited his personality perfectly. Though the outside was painted black with a heavy skull motif, there were stuffed animals in the backseat, and cute mascots hanging from the rearview mirror.
“C’mon,” said Rider, opening the passenger’s door for her. “This baby’s not going to stick around forever.”
“Mm, Rider-kun. I understand.” She got into the car, and shut the door. Rider swung into the front seat, and, with surprising gentleness, revved up the engine, and sped into the night.
