Saying they walk home together is like saying a butler walks with his employer; it’s technically true, but it doesn’t explain everything. For all his strength, Kanji pretty much ends up doing whatever Rise wants to do. He’s learning a bit more on the way; picking up fashion surprisingly well, learning about tofu from her grandmother when she recruits (drags him off the street as he passes by) him to heft the heavy boxes into the storeroom, brushing up on cooking just to save their stomachs from the horrible results of ‘fine cuisine’. Rise, on her end, learns a few more things too; when a guy comes on a bit too strong, tries to lay hands on her, she can have him on the ground in pain with a few pushes to pressure points. Her language is growing cruder too, but she doesn’t mind. Kanji’s said that cursewords don’t really sound rude coming out of her. That lilting, feminine voice just doesn’t have the weight to make fuck sound really bad. Her sharp, decisive commands are more than enough.
As if it was a surprise, she’s very tactile when they’re alone, on those rainy Sundays when there’s nothing to do but stay in and watch bad TV. They’re always at Kanji’s place - Rise’s grandmother has lived alone far too long, and the tiny TV and lace-covered furniture isn’t exactly great for hanging out - making themselves comfortable in the little backroom that Kanji’s turned into his lounge. The sofa’s taken a beating over the years, but it’s comfortable enough, the rain pattering against the window as Rise leans against his shoulder, Kanji sprawled across the cushions as they let the time slip away. Rise wears a simple shirt and comfortable, old jeans, casting her idol image aside; ‘it isn’t like you care, right Kanji-kun?’
They’re silent for the most part, just listening to the movies. Kanji’s always surprised how calm and quiet Rise can get. It’s only when she gets an idea in her head - ‘Hey, let’s go visit Yukiko-senpai!’ - that her bubbly personality returns. Kanji always suppresses a smile.

Yosuke and Yukiko are awkward together. Even after months together, they’ve never really clicked, but there’s still the odd time when they end up hanging out, just the two of them, everyone else called away by training or work or searching for ‘the perfect cellphone for Sensei!’ It always comes as a surprise, and they’re unable to speak for a few moments before Yosuke pipes up, cracking a joke that goes straight over Yukiko’s head.
It’s a rare occasion when they do something other than the few things they’re considered ‘safe’ - study sessions in the school library, meeting at Junes with Chie, watching movies at Yosuke’s place on his ridiculously-large TV with Chie and Souji - but these occasions do happen. Yosuke drops by the Amagi Inn more and more, offering to pitch in a hand or just whisk Yukiko away from her duties when Souji had called them all together to go inside the TV. In reality, the only time they spend truly alone is when they’re walking from one place to another; Souji with his clubs, Chie with her training, the two of them strolling down the Samegawa, passing pleasant conversation.
Every so often - rarer these days, but it still happens, Yosuke apparently unable to learn - he’ll flirt with her, and Yukiko’s cheeks will burn red for a few moments before muttering something about how ‘that’s really not appropriate, Yosuke-kun’. He’ll apologise, look away, and there’ll be awkward silence for awhile longer before he brings up something about school or the inn and the conversation will resume.
They want to be closer, that much is clear. The only problem is they have no idea how.

They don’t do things together in the traditional sense; the only hanging out would be when they run into each other in the shopping district, making lively conversation as they walk, rarely more than a street or two before they part, always on good terms. Chie respects Naoto’s intelligence, Naoto finds Chie’s determination admirable. Sometimes they train together, if target practice and katas side-by-side can be considered as such.
Neither really expect their friendship to be as close as the ones they share with others, but they know they have each other’s backs if anything bad happens. That seems to be enough.

Souji spends the day at home, reading a good book.
