"I ain't joking, Souji-senpai. Kill. You." When Souji answered with a wild giggle, Kanji turned his attention to the door. "Ready when you are, Nanako-chan!" he yelled gruffly.

He inhaled sharply, closed his eyes, and exhaled. He did it again, then again, then added a weird sort of knee bend every time he breathed out.

"What are you doing?"

Kanji frowned. "Getting into character. Whaddya think?"

"Oh, my God..."

"That's what actors do!" Kanji actually looked horrified as Souji collapsed into the fetal position. "It ain't funny, it's serious business, Senpai!"

Nanako chose that moment to enter, school jacket and backpack in hand. "I'm home, Mommy!"

Kanji turned to her, beaming brightly, his hands clasped in front of him. "Welcome home, Nanako-chan!" he exclaimed in a high-pitched voice, mildly reminiscent of the shadow they'd met at the bathhouse. Nanako launched herself around Kanji's legs, and he let out a soft "oomf" when her fist briefly connected with his stomach. "Did you have fun at school?"

"It was great! I got the best grade in the class on my spelling test!"

"That's just wonderful, sweetheart! Go put your things down now, okay? Your father will be home very soon, and dinner is almost ready!"

Souji chewed on his thumbnail and managed to keep silent, but he was fairly certain that his shaking shoulders gave him away.

"What are we having?"

"Why, we're having- uh." Kanji frowned and looked to Nanako pleadingly. Quickly, she stood on her tiptoes, and he leaned down so she could whisper in his ear. "We're having takoyaki!" he crowed triumphantly.

The door swung wide open, and in stepped Teddie. "Good evening, loving family!"
