That was a real possibility, wasn't it? Chie hated school, and now he was scaring her. “Thanks, Yosuke. Just what I needed to hear when I'll be struggling to stay awake all day. Ugh!”
Yosuke gave her shoulder a little shove. “See why I couldn't sleep?” She nodded, and they were both quiet for a few more minutes. “Should probably be getting back.”
“Now that you've got me as paranoid as you? Great!”
He laughed, sounding much better than he had over the phone or even a few minutes prior. “Sorry!” Yosuke stood, brushing off the back of his pants. He held out a hand. She rolled her eyes and grabbed hold of him, but as he tugged her to her feet, her own foot got caught on the bottom of her track pants and she fell against him.
“Hey, watch it!” she cried in embarrassment, finding her face pressed against his neck. He was holding onto her around her waist, and she knew his hands were still messy from eating. Who knew what state her jacket was in now? “Uh, Yosuke?”
He was actually hugging her, leaning his head on top of hers. “Thanks, Chie. For uh...the onigiri. It was good.”
She blushed, feeling a twisting in her stomach. It was weird. She really should have just stomped on his foot. Or gotten up herself. Ugh, this was messed up. Why was she still letting Yosuke hug her? Yosuke who was a pervert and bought her a bikini! But he was really warm considering the chill in the air from the fog and the fall weather. When she began to move her own arms to embrace him in return, she had to stop herself. This was...well, it was definitely a lot longer than a friends hug was supposed to be. “I need to go home,” she told him.
He let her go, finally, and she already felt colder. She shoved her hands in her pockets and looked away. “Thanks, really,” he said, heading back towards the steps. “I'll see you in class, alright?”
“Right.”
She walked home, pondering what the hell had just happened. Had she and Yosuke just...hugged? Like, in the way that people who liked each other did? Gross! She needed brain bleach or her memories erased, or something. What was going on? Then again, she thought as she quietly snuck back into her house, she was the one who'd invited him out at 2 in the morning. Stupid, stupid. He was going to hold this over her if they had any arguments. Oh god, would he tell Souji?
Chie crept back upstairs and slid back into her bed. It was after 3 now. The next time Yosuke called at night, she wasn't going to answer. It was just...too weird.
