When Naoto could walk, she always followed after one person: her older brother Minato. Actually, he taught her how to walk while he learned to run. Their parents were usually gone so it made sense she only wanted to be with him.

She didn’t want to be alone.

Her small hands reached out for his and he paused, turning his head towards her, bewildered, but then shocked as her small body shot towards him. She didn’t knock him over as she wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her head against his stomach and didn’t say anything. Her face was scrunched up and small tears formed while he wrapped his arms around her shoulders awkwardly, “Naoto, what’s wrong?”

She just held on tighter, her fingers bunching up his jacket. Frowning, he tried breaking out to continue chasing the butterfly he saw, but stopped when she started crying silently. In this house, they were all they had almost twenty-four seven. Naoto knew how to talk and he really wished she would because he was becoming---

“I dun wanna be alone…”

Minato stared at his sister, quiet himself. Minutes passed and neither moved, but finally, he hugged his sister tightly:

“I won’t leave you. I promise.”

He felt Naoto smile.
