"Dude, what was up with Chie's shadow, anyway?"

It was hard not to hear Yosuke's loud whispering, and the fact that he kept shooting nervous glances at her certainly didn't help his attempt at being inconspicuous. She had intended to pretend not to hear when the question was asked, but in the end she couldn't help but ball her fists and kick the nearby trashcan.

She was pretty sure it was fairly obvious "what was up with" her shadow, but clearly Yosuke's IQ was beneath such a thing. Souji, unfortunately, appeared to have understood the significance of the dominatrix black-haired girl immediately. Chie remembered, with a sickening drop in her stomach, the surprised raised eyebrows and the subtle look of I-think-I-understand-what's-going-on-here that he had given her. She had thought this was over with, however, when Souji was polite enough to not to bring it up, and when Yosuke appeared too stupid to notice.

But he had noticed, apparently, and he was choosing the most inconveniently open setting of Junes to discuss it. The only good thing about it was that Yukiko was helping out at the inn, and wasn't there to hear the awkward question.

"What are you two talking about?" Chie says, pulling out a chair and pushing herself into the conversation. She pretends to not have heard (though, surely, the trashcan kicking gave her away...).

Yosuke gapes at her--probably wondering if she's heard his question--and Souji...

She feels the familiar drop in her stomach, again, as he gives her the same look he gave her in the castle and she is certain he knows. He knows--he's smart enough to know something and he's probably guessed by now.

It's nice to think that afternoon was just theirs, though: that day after school where it wasn't Yosuke and Souji and Yukiko and Chie. It was just Chie and Yukiko, Yukiko and Chie--just like it used to be before the murders.
