Souji smiled a little more at that, and Yosuke was glad he'd said it. Then he felt Dojima's stare, and it faded... just a little.
"We did, Dojima-san. They were late, and we figured that wasn't really like Souji- Teddie and I knew what direction they'd be coming from, so we headed out." Kind of true. The four of them had been the front battle line in the TV world. "We found them- saw the fight and jumped in."
Dojima looked at Rise, who looked upset. "Kanji too. But I stayed behind with Yukiko-senpai."
Which fit- since Rise hadn't actually fought the Hand, and Yukiko had been close enough to the edge of the fight to avoid the worst of the melee. Yukiko blushed angrily.
"I don't know how to fight," she whispered.
Yosuke allowed himself a congratulatory thought. His lips didn't even start to twitch.
"You shouldn't have to," Dojima grimaced. "None of you should have been fighting," he said, angry, but Yosuke dared to hope he was more pissed at the bullies than at them. He turned on Souji. "You should have called me. You should have told me about these thugs when they first threatened you."
"I know," Souji ducked his head in apology. "I should have. I didn't think they'd take it this far."
To be fair- they hadn't.
"And they've been doing these things where there aren't witnesses," Souji pointed out.
"That would explain," Naoto murmured, "why these things have been allowed to persist."
Dojima scowled for a moment, then smoothed it out. "So how'd it end?"
Yosuke glared, and before Souji could speak, said, "One of the assholes hit Teddie over the head with a piece of wood. We'd driven some of them off at that point- when Teddie didn't get back up, it seemed to scare the rest. They ran off." Said 'asshole' had been Kanji, and after the fighting, Yosuke had thought it served Teddie right.
