Minato tossed his head to the side, flicking his bangs away from his eyes, and stepped forward.
Ryoji dropped his hands, twined his fingers with Minato's when they were close enough, and palmed the player, thumbing the stop and pulling at Minato's headphones with the other hand.
"Everybody plays the fool," he sang to himself. One hand tugged Minato closer by the waist and he went. Ryoji kept on with a different tune, "Don't fear the reaper, baby, take my hand-"
Minato didn't know either song. Ryoji didn't seem to concern himself with that.
"What are you doing?"
Ryoji curled his fingers between Minato's palm and the hilt of the katana, stealing it away.
"What you want," he murmured, mouth just beside Minato's. "Don't worry. It won't hurt for very long."
Ryoji lifted the blade. Minato saw it in the edge of his vision and it wasn't a sword anymore. A knife- one that matched the katana... a tanto- Ryoji jerked him back when Minato would have pulled away- the knife was at his abdomen.
"There are a few samurai in your bloodline, aren't there, Minato-kun? They would be proud to see this." Ryoji was smirking- his yellow eyes and between the blink of his eyes, Minato saw the smirk as a wide black slash in a white face. He was strong, so strong, with his arm around Minato's back.
"I feel no disgrace," Minato said in a painfully even tone, hands on Ryoji's shoulders. "I have not fallen in battle."
"Yes," Ryoji said kindly, smiling. "Yes you have. To the closest enemy you have, Minato-kun."
He only stared, the question written upon his face.
"Why me."
He didn't move but to wince as Ryoji's hand shifted and the skin below the knife parted, just slightly, and stung.
"Every time you didn't heal yourself in battle- made Yukari-chan do it just before you took that fatal hit. Every time you thought about the sword in your bedroom and how pretty the light shone on the blade," Ryoji tilted his head, speaking against the corner of Minato's jaw. The knife didn't move. "Every time you sensed Pharos' arcana and thought, 'maybe I should ask. It can't hurt to ask.' Every time you thought of your contract. Every time Igor spoke of your time limit and you wished he could shorten it. The deep, long silence when I offered you the blissful ignorance that you finally denied. Each time after that you regretted your decision to climb up, and up, and eventually battle Nyx."
