After a little while, Yukiko decided that watching Chie drunk wasn’t anywhere as amusing as it could have been. It was funny, certainly. Amusing, in its own way. The only problem seemed to be that Chie, made drunk, began to resemble Dojima. There was a lot of yelling. And a lot of insistence for coffee. Somewhere along the line, Chie had divested Yosuke of his tie, and had made an utter mess in attempting to get it around her neck. Yukiko wasn’t sure if this was a ruse or just unfortunate coincidence; and either way, it had been far, far funnier half an hour ago than she found it now. Yosuke would… probably wake up sometime within the next half hour. Until then, Yukiko had taken it upon her to carry Chie to a room in the Inn where Chie could calm down and clear her head. Preferably, away from anything alcoholic or dangerous (like alcohol) or potentially destructive, but within a limited range, because if she really wanted to be thorough, then she would have had the sense to remove Chie’s legs, too, and that was as ridiculous as it was painful to think about.

“… he’s not hurt too badly, is he?” Chie asked, sounding for a moment incredibly sober. It was an illusion, Yukiko knew. Yukiko’s next sentence would send Chie on another one of her jags.

“Yosuke-kun’s always has been good at recovering from your hits,” Yukiko said.

“Well,” Chie said, her voice loud and almost triumphant, “good! He’d better be.” She hiccupped once, and then let out a sigh that seemed to come in installments, piece by piece. Then her head pitched towards the floor. “Dun think floor’s supposed to be tilting like this.”

“You’re sitting down,” Yukiko pointed out, pulling Chie back up to a sitting position before Chie’s head could crack on the floor. Chie’s arm wrapped, suddenly, around her shoulders. Her breath smelled of beer (just a little, Chie said, just a little) and Yukiko remembered, faintly, that Yosuke had been talking with her just before Chie kicked him in the head, and wasn’t sure if it was a compliment or not. Chie didn’t look sure of what she was doing, because her body was into Yukiko’s while her neck craned away from Yukiko.

“… shouldn’t…” Chie mumbled.

Definitely not. Chie was still drunk. Possibly. No, definitely. Yukiko licked her bottom lip (too many crackers, she decided) and said, “We should get you to bed.”

“… Don’t want to.”

“We should,” Yukiko said, but didn’t really have the motivation to move; not when Chie’s body was aligned with hers, and with their limbs crossing over one another’s. Maybe she had gotten too used to the smell of alcohol, because she couldn’t even smell it anymore. She took a few breaths, and waited for Chie to yell something strange and incomprehensible so she could put Chie to bed and not feel as though she needed to follow up on anything or start something.

“We should go to bed?”

“Separately,” Yukiko said quickly, in the most pointless clarification ever.

“Don’t waaaant to.”

“Chie-”

“Want to sleep with you,” Chie mumbled. It sounded innocent enough. Yukiko’s heart beat a little faster, anyway. Chie’s face moved in closer and, softly, she said, “Personaaaa.” She was coming close, too close. Yukiko, paralyzed by too many emotions to make a move forward, backward, or away, accepted the kiss to the side of her mouth without word or reciprocation. Chie’s head slid onto Yukiko’s shoulder, and a second later, Chie’s weight went slack.

… Yukiko felt as though it would be best to move Chie back onto the bed, but couldn’t bring herself to move.

I really liked this, Anon! Yukiko's confusion and the lingering UST were both really palpable, and Chie's drunkenness was believably overbearing, as well as being super cute. I loved that final 'Personaaa.' <3

Where the hell is the OP?! anonymous February 16 2010, 17:03:36 UTC
For that matter, how can ANYBODY resist leaving a comment on something so utterly understated and sweet? It, like, boggles my mind. O.o I'm generally not a fan of this pairing, mostly because writers tend to abuse the in-game context a bit much (prince, princess, okay we get it Chie's shadow is a scary dominatrix etc.), but I absolutely ADORED this. The interaction was believeable and made me squeal (out loud, embarrassingly), and Yukiko's POV was at once canonically dry and yet bittersweet enough to make me want to scream.

Done any other fills for this pairing, anon? :)

I'm actually this anon from the last who's who discussion. ;)

Uh, let's see. I'll link directly to a few of my non-horrible Chie/Yukiko fills that might be up your alley. Most of these are fairly old, so there's a good chance you've already read most of them, aha.

thirty-two degrees, a Chie/Yukiko-flavored response to the napping prompt.
Uniform, in which Chie ends up in one of Yukiko's kimonos. For the sharing clothes prompt.
five reasons why it took Chie forever to get it
Anywhere But Here - Pre-game, Chie and Yukiko run away from Inaba, and come back.
Carry Me Home, where Yukiko's s-link goes unfinished (... forevarrrr?!11). Three times Chie and Yukiko meet in the city, eight years after she's run away.
Divine Intervention - Yosuke tries to hook Chie and Yukiko up. All of these plans backfire.
A Barrel in the Sea. Yukiko comes out to her parents. Cue: drama!

Captcha says: ceremony hangover. Seems appropriate enough, I'd say.

Not OP, but I loved it. It's nice to see nice Chie/Yukiko fills once in a while. I hope to see more from you, whoever you are.

“We should go to bed?”
“Separately,” Yukiko said quickly, in the most pointless clarification ever.
“Don’t waaaant to.”

Loved that part.

Cute! But, oh god. Chie kicked Yosuke in the head? Yukiko, as his friend you probably should have called 911. Chie's kicks are nothing to take lightly, lol!
