Interlude 19 [5c] - Peggy anonymous June 24 2009, 00:26:45 UTC
Chisato took off yet again. She figured that the car would stay stuck between the rock wall and the slope leading down to the river, so she counted on a head start. It's so much easier to run without these heels, she thought. Go, girl - keep that 50-yard-dash record you set back then at Grand Rapids High. Run, run -

The car pulled up next to her, and arms were shooting out of the window, grabbing at her, tearing at her modest clothes. She had only a moment to make her decision, but she never regretted it, even when the pain overtook her in her last moments.

Chisato Dojima of Inaba, Japan, born Peggy Sanders of Grand Rapids, Michigan, launched herself onto the hood of the car. There was a sickening thud as she was caught on the hood, scraping sounds as her carefully manicured nails raked across the car's immaculate paint. When the can-toi hit the brakes in surprise, inertia carried her forward, sending her sailing through the crisp air. In the moments before she hit the ground, she thought of her parents' faces - her white father and her sweet Japanese mother, whose genes had allowed her to pass as native in Inaba after she had flipped to this level of the Tower, this layer of the universe. Whose genes had allowed her safe harbor here in Japan, with a man who had sheltered her and who she had fallen head over heels in love with - a man who knew nothing about her life before she was eighteen. She thought of Ryotaro and Nanako, while weeping bitter tears of fear and relief. The Tower will stand on my watch, my darlings, she thought. I won't have it fall.

Mercifully, she was unconscious when the car's wheels crushed her chest and pelvis. She died with a smile on her face, a free woman at last.

... I forgot to breathe while reading this. *giant inhale* MORE PLEASE.

Is this an established setting crossover or something original?

We're glad you enjoyed it! The crossover elements are taken (liberally, and with utmost respect) from Stephen King's Dark Tower series, which both anon and anon are large fans of. As mentioned, these are all part of something much larger we've been working on, so while this is the end of Chisato's story both at-that-point-not-so-anons will have more to show in this vein.

Thank you very much for the kind words of praise!

I considered this to be the end of the story when I wrote my part of it (other writer!anon here). I wanted it to end with Chisato's death, and to of course leave a few questions open. I suppose for people who haven't read the Dark Tower it may be a bit confusing, but I'm glad that someone who hasn't still liked it :) If by some chance I think of another framing device I'll add another part, but for now, marukyurevue mods, can you change your listing of this to "complete"?

(reCaptcha: "Applause fades"? Shit.)

Dark Tower / Persona 4 crossover? Nice.

You captured the creepy 'King' vibe pretty well, with the mother-daughter link, and you managed to show pregnancy as a horror all its own.

(I wonder what Peggy would have thought of the Shadows and the TV World...)

Thanks! Glad someone got it.

Peggy would know exactly what the TV world is.

It's Todash space.

Todash space? Holy crap. Souji and company bested things from Todash space? Hardcore.

There's a lot to be said about that. Hence the larger story.

And here myself and other writer!anon were worried that OP might not like or know the references. ^_^
