So I felt like I owed it to the cast of Laramie to write a post about how impactful the play was and about how perfectly everyone played their roles, but I realised that there are no words that can do any piece of that play justice. It was beyond anything I have witnessed, and Fred Phelps is really going up against something stronger than he can ( Read more... )

If we have a cause, like giving the money to some gay rights organization, then I think we can get the Fieldhouse at South for free, which is what I want. So there's a big, easy-access place. How to fill it? Get a shit-load of (popular) bands and make a low ticket price. I'm going to contact as many bigger local bands as possible (definetly Furvis), and I also want to send out emails to nation wide bands (The Walkmen, Decemberists, etc.). I mean, it's worth a shot. Does the last Friday of school before December break work for you?

That is two days after my birthday =)
(Logistically speaking though, do you think that would be enough time to plan something as huge as what you are envisioning?)

Let me know if you want/need help planning...because of Deneb connections I have easy access to lots of "important" school people and maybe could help in that respect? And of course if/when it happens we would cover it. So there's that.

PS: Me and Mr. B had a discussion about how Avery was amazing. Your whole grade is pretty talented in terms of their acting ability...I was blown away.

It's definetly more than enough time. It's almost two months. If we start today, then we can have it all ready. It might be nice to get people to speak at it, too...

I don't know what help I'll need yet, but I'll keep you in mind. Thanks

P.S. Avery is good at almost everything he does. He's also an incredible musician.

I'm starting as soon as I make sure that everyone can do that day. As in, after practice today.

Hey Jakems it's Ave. This is an awesome idea, and a very worthy foundation is the Matthew Shepard Foundation. As to organizing this, the stage manager of The Laramie Project is Nick Brown, and he is the best stage manager, pr guy, and publicist around. He's a high school student but he's probably the best stage manager newton high schools have seen. He can organize anything, and if you want I'll put you in touch with him. I think he would like this idea. This is incredibly admirable Jake.
