Weekly New's, Week 2

I did, however, finally go check out the new(-ish) blues dancing venue that has opened up close to me!

My usual problem with swing/blues dancing is that venues are far away and start late and are usually on weeknights... which makes it implausible that I'll ever actually attend. Also, everyone is better than me and goes all the time, so I spend a lot of time standing in the corner feeling inadequate and out of the loop. This one starts at 8:00 (lesson at 7:00) and is less than a mile from my house, which means that I can dance for a couple of hours and still get 8 hours of sleep (theoretically, at least). It's also the reincarnation of a former blues venue that I'd attended once or twice in the past and found significantly more accessible (from a new dancer's perspective) than some of the others.

And lo and behold, when I finally dragged my sorry self out there I had SO MUCH FUN! There were some very talented dancers there, but everyone was actively interested in dancing with everyone else and were very friendly (and non-creepy) both on and off the dance floor. I danced constantly, learned a lot, stayed later than I should have (of course), and was on a high for the rest of the evening. Yay. So much fun. Can't wait to go back.

Other minor "first time" achievements this week include making gingerbread scones, soaking/cooking dried beans, and going on the roof to check the gutters by myself (I usually make my dad come over because I'm scared that I'll slip and fall off the roof and die and nobody will find my decomposing body for a week).

Oh, and I signed up for adult school classes, which is really only notable because it took so much effort to accomplish: I made three attempts at the online form (which was literally designed to be impossible to complete honestly); unsuccessfully called the office three times during their business hours (highly inconvenient since "phone registration" is only between 9:30 and 11:30 AM on weekdays, and then they didn't bother to pick up their phone); and had resigned myself to filling out a paper form and dashing out of work to turn it in before they closed at 3:30. At the 11th hour I decided to throw the towel in and just lie on the online form. So now I'm enrolled in two classes (yay!); I just hope they don't notice/care that I'm obviously not in high school anymore.

Onwards!
