And America's Next Top Model is.....

Ok so as usual. I've been religiouslyfollowing ANTM (America's Next Top Model for those who don't know).

It's one of my favorite shows, and since I can't watch TV very often the Tivo is Kind enough to record both showings of it (Wed. and the repeat on Sun.) just so I don't miss an episode due to blackout or some other act of nature.

This season has been one of my favorites... the girls from it were most unusual, and most of them shined in personality. Very interesting bunch, and the first season where there were two 'plus' sized models competing.

Jaslene Gonzalez - the little Latino girl from Chicago (formerly a College Admissions Advisor) was full of Cha-Cha as Tyra liked to call it, and was on the rise taking fierce photos throughout the competition. I fell in love with her spunk from the first time I saw her (Cycle 7 audition). Twas my surprise to see her return to the audition room in Cycle 8, and I again started crossing my fingers hoping they'd give her a chance.

I always thought she'd do well in the competition, but I must admit that I didn't think she would make it past the final 3 as she seemed limited to fierce, and didn't seem very marketable as a commercial model; however, she surprised even me (who wanted her to win more than any of the other girls). She did her damnedest to break her edgy look, and be a 'cover girl,' and then stomped her way through the Sass & Bide Fashion Show like she owned that bitch.

It's weird because throughout the season I've sorta developed a bond with Jaslene... I know this is gonna sound sappy, but I was literally on the Edge of my seat everytime she went up to panel, and was at ease everytime her name was called to move on to the next round... It was as if it was me up there, or maybe a close friend that I was rooting for. When she won and the tears started falling from her face I was moved to tears as well.

If I had to explain why it had such an impact on me... well it's probably because I wanted her to make it in last season when she auditioned and didn't get a spot in the house... You could literally see the devastation in her eyes, but she was strong she didn't give up. She wanted to win sooo badly, and when she did win she was humbled... she knew it was a blessing. I think Jaslene will do more with her victory than any of the past winners. She came in with a never give up attitude, and accomplished her dream of becoming "America's Next Top Model" ... Wow, what a way to start your career.

I never thought I'd see the day that I be proud of someone that I've never met. *Damn you! reality Television! Damn you!*
