seeking enchantment

I've always believed in the supernatural. Even as a child, I was susceptible to the charms of duende and other fair folk, and I've had my share of visits from a local healer to rid me of some plight caused by a day with invisible playmates. It's not like I sought paranormal stuff either - they just happened. My mother once said that I was never one to be afraid of the dark, nor was I easily spooked by threats of 'mumu' (ghosts and ghouls, etc) like the other kids were. Growing up, I lived in a home where inexplicable stuff happened all the time, and at one point I think my mother was into protective charms and spells. This sounds a little spookier than I intended, but having this background made it so much easier for me to fall for fantasy books. I might not be especially gifted in any way, but it's always been nice to imagine that I was. My fascination with magical things and creatures have never really gone away, even though my encounters with such has been decidedly nonexistent as ofd late. I've always wanted to write a story about local creatures of lore, but nothing really ever worked out.

So maybe I'll never get to write that story, but that doesn't mean I won't enjoy stories other people write. Currently alternating between Cassandra Clare and Holly Black, and I'm the happiest thing there is. :D
