first day of work: a success.

Nov 16, 2010 17:37

Didn't want to blog about this before I actually had my first day (for fear of jinxing it or something), but Monday came and went, and it is now well into Tuesday, so I guess it's good to talk about this now. :D

I am now a junior reporter for a magazine that's targeted for publication January 2011. The magazine will have people profiles and human interest stories. Spent the first day editing some articles and acquainting myself with the magazine layout and such, discussing stuff with our artist.

Made new friends too, two fellow Journ Thomasians, at that! It feels so different and so familiar to be called "ate" in the workplace, but my teammates are 20 and 21, and for some reason 25 feels like just the perfect age to be. We had coffee and dinner (yes, in that order) after work. Got home a bit late, but it was worth it. :)

There isn't anything urgent to be done this week, because I only need to edit a couple more articles. I'm glad my EIC was kind of impressed at my editing skills and speed after she found out I was done with an article and a half by 2 pm (it was mostly rewrites, too) - I was so nervous about this job because I've never really had a job where I was asked to actually write/edit like that.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do when I get back to work tomorrow after today's quiet little national holiday, but I plan to go to work early so I can come home sooner. I'm just glad I can keep regular hours now, so I can make dinner dates with family and friends.

I guess I need to start thinking about what articles to write. /goes to ask mlina for suggestions

work, life in the real world, write here and right now
