“…I found you.”
Glancing over his shoulder from where he sat Cloud blinked at the young woman, watching a smile tug to her lips. He turned away and stared back out over the maw, dark blue eyes on the city that lay just miles ahead of them both.
“So you did.”
She laughed a little and moved to his side, easing herself down beside him and stared out over at Radiant with him. Her dark eyes scanned the town and she ‘hmm’ed softly beneath her breath in thought. Sephiroth wasn’t there now, so it made her wonder just what had brought him back to the town. Was it that girl, the one she had seen in the main square before?
“…what brings you back here, anyway?” It was childish curiosity that was getting the better of her and she knew it. “I mean…Sephiroth isn’t here, is he?”
Cloud shook his head slowly in response.
“Then why?”
He looked over at her again and gave a small shrug of his shoulders, as if he had no clue what the answer was himself. Even though he came back to Radiant he had no idea why. Maybe it was because he expected Sephiroth to show up there again, like he had before. Maybe he just wanted to get away and think.
He had no idea. His mind was in a jumble.
“I don’t know, Tifa.” A pause, his eyes scanning her face. “I just… I think I wanted to get away from things for awhile. I don’t care what happens to this place, but its one place I can come and think.”
The woman smiled a little and leaned over to him, setting her head against his shoulder. “I thought it was because of that Aerith girl or something.”
“Why would you think that?”
Tifa shrugged her shoulders in response, her eyes closing for a brief few seconds. Honestly, she had no idea why she even thought that. “I don’t know… I thought you were interested in her, or something.”
“She’s like a sister to me.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
Her smile brightened a little, widened some at his answer and she nestled her head against his shoulder once again. At least she had a bit of relief now; didn’t have to feel fearful or jealous of the chestnut haired woman. Not that she had before or anything… It was just a nice feeling to know that Cloud viewed that girl as something else other than a potential love-interest.
And they sat there in silence, her head against his shoulder and his arm hesitantly rising to wrap around her waist and pull her a bit closer. It was an odd sense of comfort, this, but at least is was a moment they could share until the time came for them to part.
Just for a few more minutes, a couple more hours, they could stay together.
