My life has been taken over by my blackberry. I no longer think, because at any point in time when I used to sit and let my thoughts percolate (on the bus, in the washroom, etc) I am now exchanging messages with a myriad of people. Rather than make me more productive, this BB has simply caused dozens of people to expect swifter replies--truly, CONSTANT replies. When I go to the gym, my phone remains in my locker for about an hour and a half; I frequently exit the gym to find no less than four messages FROM THE SAME PERSON wondering why I haven't responded yet. Lunacy.
But I have reached the final straw: emoticon debt. Someone sends me an emoticon-kiss or hug and are then made upset by the fact that I do not immediately reciprocate that ridiculous symbol. I somehow owe them a response and am indebted to their winky-face and my lack of typing the same goddamned thing somehow makes them feel unloved or under-appreciated.
Our lives have all gone crazy. I never thought I would say this... but I miss the 90s.
