A reunion after death. Ichigo waiting in the Soul Society for her to pass over and Orihime in the human world, waiting for Rukia to perform konso. Points of view from both of them, or all three of them, or from Rukia’s perspective alone.
Everyone dies eventually. For most people, it's their worst nightmare, but for Inoue Orihime, it was just another fact of life. Perhaps it was easier for her to face death because she knew what waited for her on the other side. Although she couldn't say she had particularly looked forward to dying, when her time came, sooner than expected and sure to break the hearts of her friends, Orihime had braced herself for it.
However, she found herself in a slightly troublesome situation: whether it was because she felt terrible about leaving her human friends behind or she hadn't been as ready as she thought, Orihime didn't enter the cycle of souls right away. Instead, she was stuck in the human world as a Plus, wandering and unable to move on without assistance.
I have to keep my heart clear of darkness and regret, she thought as she meandered through the small forest outside of Karakura. Otherwise, I'll turn into a Hollow and then I might-She didn't want to think about that. She inhaled

To Rukia, death was a part of her life. She herself was dead, and she sent the souls of those who had died onto Soul Society as a part of her job. However, it was a whole other can of worms when someone she knew and loved like a sister died

Her friend laughed nervously. "Well, at least I'm not getting the bad end of your zanpakuto, right?"
Rukia laughed with her in spite of her mixed feelings of dread and grief. "Yeah. It's better you get the blunt end. I'd hate to use the blade on you." The thought of having to cut Orihime down with it was unbearable, so Rukia pushed the thought aside. "Which is why I need to do this now, so I don't ever have to."
"Right." Orihime's arms stiffened as Rukia raised Shirayuki.
"Don't be frightened," Rukia said gently. She clasped her free hand over Orihime's hand to calm her. "It doesn't hurt. You'll black out for a bit, and when you come to, you'll be in Soul Society." Trying not to show her own fear, Rukia gave Orihime an encouraging smile. "Are you ready?"
Orihime nodded. “Yeah. Oh! One thing. Rukia-chan, before you go back, could you grab my hairpins?" She offered her an apologetic smile. "They’re with Tatsuki-chan. I didn’t wear them when I died, since I wasn’t sure if I’d lose them when I went over to Soul Society.”
He paid no mind to the biting wind as it blew over him. He would not budge until Orihime came. Until then, he would wait without complaint. Though it wasn't necessary and no one was expecting him to, Ichigo was determined to remain steadfast in face of this new reality that he did not want.
A part of him felt terrible for thinking that. He would be with Orihime, alone for the most part, in Soul Society. There were some advantages and benefits of their new situation, but at the same time, Ichigo preferred that this had waited another 50 or so years.
It's no one's fault, he thought as he closed his eyes. Orihime didn't want to get so sick. As unfair as it is, this is just how things are now.He had been so lost in his thoughts he almost jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder. His head snapped around and he looked over his shoulder. To his surprise, he was met with the sight of Renji holding two mugs of tea. "Renji
( ... )
Renji set his mug on the ground, feeling for Orihime's reiatsu. "Hard to say but..."
Ichigo knew it was her. Everything inside of him: his heart, his instinct, his senses, they were all screaming that it was her. "In the west," he said before he flash-stepped away from Renji.
He leapt down the side of the hill and landed on both feet on top of a storage building. He didn't care about the damage the roof sustained from his fall as he sped off towards Seireitei's western gate. He dodged any shinigami and buildings in his way, unconcerned by their strange, questioning glances as he made his way through the Seireitei. As he approached the west exit, he hopped on top of a building and used it as a springboard to leap over the wall.
Damn it, how far into the Rukongai is she? he thought as he ran through the first district. His gut clenched in fear as he wondered if she had been left in one of the higher numbered districts. Thugs, bandits, violent criminals... they all resided in those areas. Fear and worry propelled him forward faster

She lifted up her head, her doe brown eyes blinking rapidly at the man in front of her. For a terrifying moment, Ichigo thought that Orihime had lost her memories somehow, that she didn't recognize him and would see him as a complete stranger. "Hime," he murmured softly, using her nickname

That was amazing! It was so much better than anything I even imagined. I absolutely loved every bit of it. Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing this! -sighs in contentment- My day is now complete. ♥
