I'm sad to see you go, as I'm also someone who is happy enough with a rather easygoing comm where adults (with exceptions of really bad trolls) are expected to behave like that... the internet per se isn't a safe space, and I don't see why a comm should need to be holier than reasonably pc (unless it's some sort of abuse survivors' comm maybe). I definitely appreciate bans on abusive people, but a simple temporary solution for dealing with trolls is also to not respond to them for threads and threads on end. I can understand why you have enough, thanks for sticking around as long as you did. The problem with being a mod is that it is not possible to be liked by everyone and do everything in a way that satisfies everyone. It's a bit like a vet who will never really be loved by all the pets treated, and a pediatric doc who will likely see as many horrified kids as happy ones... I also thought it was really sudden, but seeing the recent conversations this seems to have built up for a while, so it's only really surprising for us who just happily read and enjoyed posts and didn't have (and/or didn't want) much insight into what went on in the background. I frankly don't get why people love drama so much, but whatever floats their boat.
If what philstar's and surrey_sucks' said is true, this sounds like a case of mod burnout. I definitely agree that people who bagatellize(sp?) rape can't be tolerated, though I still think that this whole situation could have been handled better.
