Warren James bad service

Dec 17, 2012 19:48

I popped into the jeweller Warren James this morning, looking for a Christmas gift for my mum. As I was headed to work, I was dressed in my work clothes; I wasn't a scruffy mess, but I wasn't dressed to the nines either ( Read more... )

I think you might be over-reacting a bit. Just because they looked and you and turned away, it doesn't mean they thought you were disgusting. Please don't think that they thought of you as hideous or ugly, because they probably didn't think that about you at all. In the end thinking like that only brings your self-confidence down. I struggle with the same thoughts though, so I realise it can be hard.

The service sounds mundane.

I think it may be more like they assumed that she wasn't dressed up, she wasn't "rich enough" for them. That she wasn't a serious buyer. Basically assuming she wasn't worth their time to help out because she didn't look the part.

That, sadly, I have experienced in real life. If I ever became seriously wealthy, I'd go out of my way to go to fancy stores in normal clothes and see which ones really have good customer service and which ones are pretentious snobs.

Yeah, that seems to be quite a common problem, especially with boutique/trinket type shops. A couple of months ago, I was followed around by the owner of a boutique shop. My boyfriend was as well. But then again, my bf looks kind of shady. I don't mean that in a bad way, he just does lol. He's got that rugged look about him. But he's the sweetest guy I know, and it just shows you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Once we actually bought something from there, and started small talk with the owner, we actually had a nice conversation about dogs (I bought something with a dog motif on it). Maybe she just got a lot of people steal from her shop, I don't know. Maybe it makes her wary. But apart from this one little incident, with its happy ending, I haven't had it happen to me much thankfully!

I'm still sore about it because I got it a lot as a teenager. Whether or not I was in my goth-gear. Used to burn me up to be judged either by my age or my clothing or both. Wish I could have told them the clean-cut kids were cheating on tests I was getting honest C's on.

Perhaps they've simply learned not to harass people who don't need help.

But how would you know if someone walking in does or does not need help if you don't ask?

Just thinking...

I was wondering the same thing.

You could wait 'til they ask? I don't know. In cases where the bad service is so slight, I usually assume the employee is in the right. Like, maybe they usually get their head chewed off by customers who DON'T NEED HELP LEAVE ME ALONE AH!

I'm glad the other staff isn't all like the first person. Even if the person wasn't on the clock or some other typical "excuse" some people may throw around, you still greet someone when they enter your shop, it's standard practice most places and then offer to get them help if you can't do it personally.

I get this quite a bit but as soon as the Platinum Card comes out they become as sweet as a pile of sugar.
