Bad Restaurant Service

I have celiac disease, which means I am intolerant to anything with gluten. Obviously, it can be limiting especially when dining out at restaurants, which is why I try to go to restaurants I know either have a gluten free menu or can cater to people who are gluten free ( Read more... )

I would have said something. I've cooked a 3 course meal for 70+ people and was very careful since I had two celiac people on my list, amid various allergies. Personally, I treat Celieac as I would treat my mothers allergy to mushrooms, they will kill her. Therefore, whenever I cook for a large group, or a family potluck I treat any and all allergies I am aware of as I owuld if I were cooking for my mom. I am so sorry you are suffering :(

That's how I treat food I'm preparing when my sister is going to eat, too. She's vegetarian, partially due to having a PETA phase (which I am glad is over) and partially due to not being able to eat certain proteins (besides dairy, we're not sure which). It can be challenging sometimes (especially as I'm planning a wedding,) but not that difficult, really.

Oh, does she have Random Protein allergy too? My husband has it, it's all sorts of fun. /sarcasm

Don't actually know, but that definitely could be it! I'll look into it and have her check in with her doc when she gets settled (she's becoming a member of my clinic finally. Somebody managed to convince her, yay!)

My sister is like that; she went vegetarian two months ago because she saw a documentary on factory farming and was horrified. I respect her decision, lol. She's always been an animal lover but not quite on PETA levels.

My body is starting to force me to be vegetarian because most meat it REALLY doesn't like to process, but yeah. She discovered PETA at about 12 and oh lords did that suck. Finally at like 15 or something mom turned to her and told her to knock it the fuck off because we don't judge her for being vegetarian.

Yeah, we probably should have said something at the time. We just figured with the huge event in town, the people in the restaurant wouldn't really care because they have bigger things to deal with. We might call back after everything dies down, to see if maybe we can get them to understand why that type of thing isn't acceptable.

And ty :) At least it's not something that sends me to the hospital. I'd rather be miserable for a week.

I treat food like that in general - really careful with allergies but I also like to address people's dietary preferences (non-dairy, vegetarian, vegan, etc.) I have a gluten-free member of my staff and when we did potluck and I made mac and cheese, I made a special gluten-free pan for him. Both pans were demolished.

I love you for doing that. Honestly I do. I'm allergic to mustard, worked for one company 6 years and the boss never DID take the mustard out of the devilled eggs, and worked for another company for 8 years and only maybe 50% of the time did one guy who always asked me to REMIND him which I did, leave the mustard out of the quiche. I would be ARE YOU SURE in big capital letters at him verbally, are you SURE you left it out? I finally gave up on eating either eggs or quiche unless I made it. Which is annoying because they were supposedly really really good food.

See, that sucks. I like people and I like cooking for them. It's so much easier for me to modify the recipe (or make another smaller pan for the allergic) than it is for you to go hungry because there aren't right options for you :(

I would totally have loved working with you. I do the same thing.
