You all have a funny definition of "light highlighting."

I ordered a textbook from Amazon.com. I reviewed their policies for accepting used textbooks, which include the term "light highlighting." I can't stand my books to be highlighted, but in dealing with used textbooks, sometimes I can suck it up and deal. The description of this book said, "book may have some highlighting." This is what I got:

How can you even READ this? )

Maybe light highlighting means they didn't use a black sharpie!

Maybe to them, it means not highlighting the entire freaking book. That is NOT light highlighting, pffft.

Oh god.

I hate that.

I hate writing in my books! It almost killed me last class that I HAD to write in my books because the damn thing thought it would be a good idea to leave diagrams blank for the students who are reading it to label.

I think I'd die if I had highlighter anywhere on my book.

That sounds like a dastardly ploy by publishers to diminish the used book trade for that particular title. Or am I just cynical? ;)

I totally and completely agree with you. I take typed notes of my reading and highlight them as necessary because I refuse to mark up books, even textbooks.

With my learning disabilities, I need to highlight stuff in order to learn, so when I get a book that's already been highlighted, it's awful.

Is it at least helpful highlighting? Because there certainly is an awful lot of it.

just from looking at the pics it looks like a crazed toddler just went at it with crayons!..... or a bored college student who just randomly highlighted sentences to show his mom he "really IS studying, OKAY???"

It was not helpful highlighting at all. Practically every word was highlighted that wasn't an article or conjunction.
