So, I've spent the last few days working at a homeless shelter. This is a women's only shelter, part of a larger group of shelters organised by redacted. In other words, every woman here has chosen to be away from men for whatever reason. These reasons include experiences with domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Sadly, all of this is relevant. *

If he's not self-employed and works for a company, you could try calling and letting them know about his behavior. Including the cocaine snorting.

This is what gets me.... Every women there, is there, away from men, by request. Yet a male dj is hired to provide entertainment for them. The failed communication and having him booked by mistake is one thing...but he should've been put a stop to from the getgo. I've been in situations that involved men and some bad situations that have happened... I just can't imagine wanting any sort of entertainment during a hard time like that. Maybe I'm missing something, but the whole thing is just... WOW.

It's not a refuge that women run to to immediately escape from, for instance, domestic violence. It's a Christmas shelter for homeless women. Most of them were very happy to be entertained, though, obviously, not by this creep.

Yeh. I don't get it. You have a women's shelter. Why is anyone booking MALE help for anything. Why would redacted even DO that to the women there? There have to be plenty of women DJs around.

In fact a lot of women's shelters are kept word of mouth and word of social worker or police dept for just the reason to keep men away from them. Why would anyone want a man, especially one with this kind of attitude to even have the address of the place.

If I were a volunteer or staying there because I needed the place, I'd be freaking out all over the place at redacted for daring to hire him ONCE let alone twice. Even if he was perfectly polite and good at his job. This is one of the few cases where it's absolutely appropriate to insist on not hiring MEN. He should not have been there last year.

I'm afraid none of the female DJs have volunteered their services.:(

There have been other successful male volunteers - off the top of my head, a magician, a gentleman from the Samaritans, and an experienced administrator. The shelter is only open for a few days at Christmas, and will be elsewhere next year. The address isn't published, and access to the shelter is referall only - which, I agree, doesn't help when it's given to creepoids like the DJ. Ideally, it'd be wonderful to only have men on-site, but it just isn't practical, since everyone is a volunteer.

Or just play your own music. Not everyone will like it (Not everyone will like the DJ's, either), but hey, fun!
