So, I'm at a ridiculously girly store because a friend of mine demanded fancy hair clips for her birthday. I would like to say now that it's not a hair salon (though it does sell hair dyes). So, I'm looking at the hair clips, rather confused because I never use hair clips and I haven't been within ten feet of a hair clip in my life. Then, a wild ( Read more... )

That could be grounds to file assault charges against her. I've seen pushy sales people, but how socially inept do you have to be to just grab someone like that!?

Depends on the state. If I recall correctly NY doesn't have a battery statute and everything is assault.

Apparently a lot of people are 'very' socially inept. I have people grab my hair all the time because it's so pretty and long.

I've seen more than my share of socially inept people as well, but none have ever been so stupid as to just grab my hair...

It happens to me all the time, as sad as that is.

idgi...does it feel different because it's longer? I can happily marvel at hair 3 - 4 feet long without molesting the person...

I think part of it is because mine is very healthy looking and most people haven't seen a lot of healthy hair, least off all that much in one place. It's also very similar to rubbing a pregnant woman's belly apparently.

Some people think that seeing someone with long hair means that they have a personal invitation to fondle it. A few years ago, when I had hair down to my waist, I was chatting with a client in the lobby of the kennel I worked at. While I was kneeling on the ground next to her dog, some random person walked up to me from behind and started petting my hair, commenting creepily about how soft and pretty it was, while my manager and client were staring in open-mouthed horror at him.

I've suddenly acquired help on this. My 10 year old step daughter has 'no' problem speaking up and saying fairly loudly that it's rude for people to do that when they're doing it. I can't help but laugh at the various reactions of people when she does that.

I'm growing my hair out again. Could I borrow her every once in a while?

I dunno ... her parents get a little iffy when I offer to ship her off to far away places. ;)

Well...see...you were on the floor right? In a kennel. With the dogs! Obviously you were just someone's pet and thus it was perfectly acceptable for them to pet your hair.

*facepalm*

Some people, seriously.

(and on that note, even if you WERE someone's pet, I still think it's tacky of people to pet a pet without the owner's permission)

Especially if you sneak up on them! (And I'm easily just as likely to bite as your average unknown dog).
