When I grab a quick snack on campus, I'll usually flip through my class notes. I don't devote my time at the cafeteria to do any hardcore studying since it (duh) tends to be pretty loud ( Read more... )

Considering my really large university has a really large student center with a really large caf, a lot of students study there. I still think it's pretty bad service.

They weren't providing a service, however. They never said anything while she was grabbing a "quick snack". They were on break. Sure, what they said was rude and uncalled for, if they said that, but it wasn't bad service.

So if someone is in uniform while on break it's totally legit to say something rude about/to a customer because they're not on the clock? Okay, thanks for that.

Shit happens. I'm not saying it's awesome. And it sucks that they said that. But it's still not bad service.

This comm wouldn't exist if we all just said "shit happens".

And I just realized that, for all this is one of my fave communities, I have never made a post here. Huh. Too much "shit happens" attitude in me, I guess. xD

Let's say this was a Walmart employee, still in uniform, who said something rude. I have been told by many of my employers that what you do while in uniform constitutes "bad service" because of the image you present.

I understand that they're human beings, but while you're still in uniform, whether on break or even off for the day, you're still acting as an employee, and what you say/do reflects on your service while on the clock.

However, I understand if you don't agree.

Even if you're off the clock, you can still get fired for something you do, if the company thinks it creates a bad image for them.

Like people who post party pictures on their facebook. :P

I've even heard of people getting fired for talking back to a customer, when they're not in uniform, or even in the workplace. :/

Yep. Not a policy I agree with, personally, but policy is policy, and sometimes, they're there for a reason. I mean, off the clock, not even near the workplace, not in uniform? That's going a bit far, but if you're still on the premises, there's no reason for rudeness.
