Benadryl. And Tylenol. That's how I managed to get SOME sleep! And later, Benadryl is also safe while breastfeeding.

I'm such a paranoid mom to be, I've read that there has been little studies done with Benadryl and the effects during pregnancy, you didn't have any adverse reactions?

I haven't taken anything since finding out, I've suffered through headaches (thank you peppermint halo), heartburn, the works. Bah!

Maloxx and Zantac are both safe to take while pregnant, and I really should have bought them in bulk. LoL

As for sleep, have you tried just plain old Melatonin?

Tylenol is also safe while pregnant.

It just breaks my heart to see pregnant women needlessly suffer.

In the US, Benadryl is typically the only allergy medication recommended during pregnancy. (Outside the US, the other "big 3" of Claritin, Allegra and Zyrtec have been upgraded to being considered safe as well, but they don't help with sleep.)

Try 25mg of Benadryl (1/2 an adult allergy treatment dosage) as a sleep aid.

No problems at all! I was actually a high risk pregnancy and both my OB and Perinatologist told me to take Benadryl when I was having trouble getting to sleep. My OB also suggested a glass of red wine to help me relax. I didn't drink though, but honestly because my back was always hurting and I wanted to take the Tylenol and alcohol and Tylenol is not nice to your liver.

Also, take as many naps as you can! :)

Benadryl is generally considered safe... from what I understand, almost NOTHING has been studied thoroughly during pregnancy. I've been taking Unisom, which, actually, according to my labels is the exact same drug as benadryl.

However, you mentioned Restless Leg, and Benadryl can actually exacerbate that. Try doing some good leg stretches before you go to bed, and eat bananas. :)

I'm on the verge of asking my doctor for Ambien. The insomnia sucks so hard. Do you mind me asking what the pharmacist actually sold you?

be careful with the Ambien! It can make you do some odd stuff in your sleep. Like, if I take it, it makes me have BAD BAD dreams, and I end up sleepwalking or doing other stuff. (once i woke up in the middle of sleepwalking, another time i woke up, flat on my back, arms extended to the ceiling, wedding and engagement rings in my right hand, left hand angled as if i was about to put the rings on my finger. all in my sleep.) just thought i would let you know what i have put up with with ambien, though i only take it when i REALLY REALLY REALLY need to.

Benadryl for the win! I took it while pregnant with my daughter and didn't have any adverse reactions.

I remember my doctor telling me that Benedryl, Maalox, Tylenol and plain Robitussin was safe during my pregnancies.
