This happened a little over an hour ago. I was out getting ready to do some shopping and stopped at the gas station down the road from my house to get some gas and cigarettes

I hate that! Every single time a non-smoker starts giving me shit about being a smoker I have started being a smart ass to them. Mock surprise "Really? Oh my gods! I had NO idea smoking could hurt me? I should stop right now! Thank you for saving my life because I had NEVER heard that before!"
I usually get an annoyed look but they drop it.
I recently bought smokes from Russia which have this huge piece of white paper with black print that says "Smoking kills". It made the above sarcasm even more amusing as I wave the "smoking kills" pack at them as I exclaim my surprise at their wonderful information.
The fact they are no longer available is a travesty. They would make a nice little joke christmas gift for a few of my mates. They should at least come out with some metal cigarette cases like it for gift purposes.
as a NON smoker, who is lethally allergic to second hand smoke (or touching cigs. which also keeps me out of some jobs, sigh) who thinks everyone shoudl quit smoking.....
its NONE of her business, out of line and probably against policy.
I have the same problem with my birthdate. People say all the time, "You're not old enough," when I purchase alcohol or cigarettes from a liquor store or gas station. Weird.
She really doesn't have any place to tell you about the consequences of your habits.
Now that I read this over, I guess she was just commenting on your age, not arguing that you weren't legally old enough. I have cashiers tell me they can't sell me liquor or cigarettes, because I'm not of legal age to be purchasing. Once I correct them and hand my ID back to them, they look at it and usually apologize for the mix up. It happens pretty frequently, which is weird. Sorry, I totally misunderstood.
