Have you had an MRI? My armchair diagnosis skills say Chiari Malformation. But it's one of those things, since I have it I suspect everyone who has migraines has it.
Probably best to not be an armchair doctor. I have severe migranes and do not have Chiari Malformation. My aunt has debilitating migranes and does not have Chiari Malformation.
I have actually - I considered mentioning it in this but felt it a little irrelevant. Regardless, the MRI showed no abnormalities whatsoever within my brain (which actually rather shocked me, considering that I thought there may be chemical imbalances due to the fact I've been clinically depressed for years).
Oh honey! I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this - no pun intended - headache.
Just a suggestion -- I was laid up in bed, and in the hospital, for an entire four months due to what I found out were CHRONIC migraines. They did everything from putting me on regular Aleve to doing MRIs to see if I had a tumor. Turns out, nope, just chronic migraines. After four doctors and four months, my current doctor put me on Tenormin for prevention, and Maxalt for treatment of breakthroughs.
I also get cluster headaches, which are... uh... special. There's basically nothing to do for them other than try to put yourself to sleep and not scream your head off. I remember the first one I got, it took four Darvosett, a Xanax, three Aleve, and a stream of Demerol before it went away. Oh, it hurt.
Have you gotten yours even partially fixed yet? Let me know if you need help figuring out ways to manage pain - I'm an expert at this point! :)
*hug* Thank you so much for your sympathy. You were in the hospital for four months!? That must have been awful - the longest I ever have a headache is maybe a week. One thing my current doctor has recommended to me is taking a slightly greater dose of Ibuprofin than recommended (for instance, taking 600mg versus 400mg). I can't do this often, since as I've found, if I take three pills at once and then repeat this perhaps four days later, I'll end up sleeping for 24 hours or more and will turn into a zombie when I'm awake. It DOES help considerably, though, and I guess putting me to sleep could be a good thing if i'm putting up with a migraine. :P He also gave me a list of things I could try to help with my migraines, which I'm still looking into.
I am SO sorry. About eight years ago I used to battle headaches horribly. I missed two weeks of school straight because I had a headache that just would not go away. After being put on an IV drip of morphine it finally went away. Horrible though.
I don't really know why I don't get them as often anymore. I have a prescription of Imitrex that I have for the unfortunate times that they do spring up on me.
Thank you so much for your concern. <3 I'm really sorry you had to deal with that for two weeks.. I get mild headaches for months on end but the longest I've ever had a "migraine" was maybe 6 days. I've been told that people tend to just grow out of migraines, so maybe that's your case. I'm glad they're less frequent for you now.
I would definitely recommend asking your doctor to let you get an MRI. I've had terrible migraines since I was a little kid and have history of tumors and cancer in my family and felt that no one was taking me seriously in my concern because my mother also has migraines. It's understandable and it turned out to only be an acute and not entirely big thing that's going on in my head but I practically had to FORCE my doctor to let me get an MRI and it turned out I had, I believe, cerebellar tonsillar ectopia or some such thing (I can't quite recall now) which my mother also has, still sometimes you have to push. :/ Really I should probably do the same thing at my next neurology appointment as my migraine meds have stopped working.
I hope you get it taken care of and that you feel better!
