A WTF I experienced recently.
I went to a local sandwich place to get some lunch. I approach the counter, and greet the server with a "Hi!"
The server then holds up a piece of paper. Written on it are a bunch of different things. He points to the first line. Hi. How are you?
I stop, thoroughly confused, then say. "I'm fine, and you?"
There is a pause as he turns the paper back to himself and scans the list. He shows me the paper again and is pointing to another sentence. I'm fine. What can I get for you?
"I'd like a turkey sandwich please."
He looks back over his list again and points once more. Everything on it?
"No, no tomatoes and no cheese, please."
He punches it into the register, and once again looks over his paper. As he's doing so, another coworker walks by.
"What in the world are you doing, John?" she demands.
"Sarah, I'm so sick of saying the same thing over and over again. This just makes life easier!" He then points to another phrase. Would you like a drink with that?
His coworker shakes her head in disbelief, laughing a little, then disappears into the back.
"No, just a glass for some water."
Anything else?
"No, thank you, that'll be all."
He rings me up, and points to the total. We exchange money, and I start to turn away. He holds up his finger, stopping me. He spends a moment looking over his list, then points for the last time. Thank you and have a nice day! :)
"Um, you, too."
Yeah. I mean...it was kind of like...what? Is it so hard to talk, dude? And that coworker of his seemed so nonchalant about the whole thing. It was just...weird. That dude is going to be in serious trouble if his boss ever finds out.
