Well, why should he read the Bible? Not everyone cares.

Also, "Rachael" does seem to be a far more common spelling of the name, IME. I know four ladies who spell it that way and only one who spells it the way you do. *shrugs*

I've only ever seen it spelt Rachel, I think it may depend on where you're from in the country.

Doubt it. I'm not from the same country you and the OP are.

I can't honestly remember seeing it spelt Rachael at all, and I'm also from the UK. It looks completely wrong to me.

Looking for a site that mentioned the origins of the name (I had a hunch about the reason for the variation) I stumbled across a site that had statistics for the use of names. It mentioned that in England the most common is Rachel, whereas in Scotland and Ireland it is almost unheard of, people instead using Rachael. Personally I'm in Scotland myself, and this is the first time I've heard of Rachel as opposed to Rachael, although I have seen Michel as opposed to Michael (although Michel tends to be used in europe more than over here)

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks! (And my middle name is Michael, and I must admit I tend to look at it sometimes and think it looks wrong...)

Really? Hm, strange. Ah well, it's possible I just haven't noticed that people have been using different spellings of the name

Actually, according to the social security administration, Rachel is far more popular. It's ranked between 9 and 38th in popularity since 1991. Rachael ranks between 114 and 392.

Well, I am assuming since the OP was recently filing taxes AND using H&R Block that they are American, and as an American, Rachel is the more common spelling.
