Show, don't tell
To any number of people I've played with over the years -
Instead of OOCly telling the other players about all of your character's utterly wonderful qualities, skills and powers ad nauseum, try having them demonstrate them ICly. Beheading a monster in one clean swipe is so much more effective at communicating their combat skill than just going on and on OOCly about how they're the greatest swords(wo)man who ever lived, and have a magical sword that's more powerful than Excalibur.
Remember the writer's maxim - "show, don't tell." It works for RP, too.
