Oh Jeez What

So, despite this being a Gaia suck, believe me I joined prepared for a lot of stuff and because I enjoy pitting my older male cowboy bard wanderer against fixer sues and powerhungry demonboys for fun. Aside from some character silliness to be expected from Gaia the girls on this particular thread aren't too bad. A few of the people from my forum joined in too, bringing in their OC assortment of oddballs, scuzzballs and grungebuckets to counteract the usual Gaian court.

Tonight, however, bowled me over. My icon should be a good example of my reaction.

We're in the middle of a very casual scene. My Cowboy is explaining to Half Succubus he needs his wrist braces repaired, my friend's Finnish Serial Killer is fooling all the girls into thinking he's the dumb raver he pretends to be, another friend finally brings in her WoD-based Stuttering Vampire.

Now by this point my Cowboy gone through about a page full of countering minor Fixer-Sue stuff IC, which I found fun, even if it was a little annoying. The Inn owner, an Lolnekothing wanted to magic the pain away from his bad wrists, and Half Succubus insisted she could chisel the gears of a victorian pocketwatch so a wrist-brace glove shouldn't be hard to fix. Medical wrist-braces for as screwed up of wrists as Cowboy has are a different ballpark from pocketwatches entirely, and he says so. The characters responded well to his kindly older man refuting, and then Stuttering Vampire came in with entertaining first post. It's a pretty mundane casual RP besides the mythical creatures running amok.

And then?

Half Succubus' player decides this is a GREAT time to have a graphic and traumatizing miscarriage! Right in the middle of the bar! Granted, miscarriages are unpredictable, awful things; this was both out of the blue an awkward, not to mention a little rude for the new person posting their intro posts and trying to get into the groove. None of the characters knew she was pregnant and, in fact, she had been drinking heavily with Cowboy earlier on in the thread.

If I had known this person better as an RP partner and they had given fair warning and asked about it, it may have been at least an interesting plot. She's a learning RPer and will someday be a good one but this was just. Wow. I let her know honestly I was not comfortable in the least with playing the plot and someone else said they didn't know how to reply to it so she politely agreed to retcon and we moved on. It wasn't the usual "nobody's paying attention to me" ploy either, she just decided to make the VERY PUBLIC Inn RP the vehicle for her character's main canon even though it was not the appropriate place for it. She's a good writer in the making and hopefully she learns from this.

And besides the fact that I think it was too graphic for Gaia TOS anyway... miscarriage in front of a serial-killer who steals hearts because they are "filled with hope" and a stuttering, drunkfuckedup vampire? That would have been more awful than the girl bargained for.

At least it ended well.

doing it wrong, pregnancy fail, gaia rp, mary sue
