Them demins is srs bizness

I play in a WoW guild whose plot centers around killing all these unbound disguised demons who have recently infested my server and for some reason have found myself on the pointy end of the general Sharpened Broom Handle 'o Server Hatred. I mean in the sort of way where I am now a bad person in real life because we killed your half-demon, ( Read more... )

You mean there are consequences for anything in WoW?

And don't worry about the people calling you a bad rper. Some people believe that if you don't spell out every detail of a situation in a 10 page essay you must be hiding something.

Yes, don't worry about the peple saying you're a bad role play - no one really believes that a Role Playing Guild made for the express purpose of going after one character type, simply because you do not like it or think its an overused type etc is bad role playing - not at all!

On a far more serious note: If the concept of any character type or race not falling into the strictest interpretation of existing lore is alien to you - especially in an open environment (like WoW and others, where the lore writer[s] do not say "This is how it is and no other way"): Don't Role Play. Anywhere. At All.

Yes, because acting upon lore for RP, such as killing demons that have basically raped your world, is totally bad RP.

And yes, in most situations demons AND WARLOCKS do not announce themselves lore-wise, for fear of being killed. Heck, there are quests to take out disguised demons and a warlock quest to kill a Stormwind noble that has discovered the hiding place of warlocks in the city.

Wait, you're right, warlocks and demons should be walking hand in hand with shamans, druids, and paladins and frollick among the flowers, right? And Night Elves marrying Human Warlocks should be totally common and have no IC consequences like having your ass tossed out of Darnassus.

Blood elves were mentioned, and there's a great deal more tolerance for black magic in Silvermoon. In any case it's metagaming to know this shit and killing warlocks certainly isn't legal within either the Horde or the Alliance.

I'm probably a little rusty on lore, but I do feel like you're right on it depending on the city. There's more tolerance in Silvermoon than there might be in, say, Stormwind for warlocks and the like. Not sure about unbound demons strolling around, though.

Regardless, running around just killing people because their RSP says that they're a demon would certainly be metagaming and in the realm of not cool, but if they're speaking in demonic tongues or shouting it from the rooftops, well, I couldn't blame certain character concepts for trying to slay the evil demon.

Trying to slay the evil demon is fine, sure. Coming to BRPS to complain because they should ~know better than to speak around your character~ and shit, when you are picking fights with the kind of bad RPer that are more or less part of the scenery of the city? My sympathy is negligible.

Nice icon, btw.

My problem is with the people who OOCly treat us badly because my character reacted to their character. Not the general concept.

Soooo was your guild formed around the preemptive knowledge that they would all treat you badly OOC or like..?

No, it just kind of turned out that way.

So people formed demon characters with the knowledge that all demons in WoW were cute and cuddly and everyone loved them and gived them hugs?

Really, if the player that was attacked was that upset they had to through OOC fits they could simply have ignored the OP and their friends rather than RP with them.

I'm personally content to ignore those kinds of characters myself and while I don't blame anyone for confronting a demon that's loud about it in public, I guess you kind of have to expect what's going to come from the types of people that usually play those concepts if you engage them.

I totally didn't make it, but thanks. We clearly have good taste.

Apparently the entire concept of a character race or type not fitting the stringent definitions of a Lore Nazi - especially when the parent companies give free leeway to play with the lore and even make characters that run contrary to what the lore states (because, you know, that's how the world actually works) is utterly lost on you.

Apparently I can still name report Onehitcrit and Megankzu on an RP server.
