Wow, I'm posting something that isn't gayfail!
I joined a new board. The setting is pretty typical; a city where shifters and vampires live alongside humans. It has some people whose posting style I prefer, some who I don't think I work as well with, some characters that are really intriguing, some that are 2D as paper...ups and downs in general. There's been a few things that bugged me but other than what I wrote about in my last post, nothing that I felt needed a rant here, and probably have more to do with just my personal preferences versus actual bad RP on anyone's part.
This...I don't know if I'd call it bad RP. I have no idea what to call it. I have no idea what to think of it. I think it may be a joke, but I am not sure.
I noticed a new character in the profiles section, named...Snoop Doggy Dogg. With "Slap a bitch" as the subheading. Out of morbid curiosity, I had to see. This is what I found, with bold parts added by me to clarify parts that might be confusing. Well, more confusing...
**Face Claim/Play-by- Snoop Dogg

**Mental weakness- When the tap runs dry he can get a bit emotional.. Or if someone drops the damn cherry.
**Mental strengths- Business man at heart, he knows how to make a bundle of cash out of a bag full of dried weeds. Hells yeah.

I waited to see what the admin was going to say about this...it turned out the admin herself was the player. Which I guess explains why he doesn't have to have a history or even a paragraph's worth of personality description. I keep waiting to see him in a thread, but haven't yet. But here's another history, this one from a new player for their arctic fox shifter.
Born to be a doner to his brother, Ry wasnt wanted from the moment he was born he was needed simple as that, his sister that came a few years later not even that. He was treated decently, much as if something the parents had to take in and take care of to protect there favorite son. Not that he cared he loved his brother and sister both and would have done anything for either one of them.
Ry was ten when his brother died in surgery, one of the countless transplant surgeries he had went through, his parents instantly blamed him and the two hated children left were treated even worst then they had been before.
A fire happened taking his sister from him and his voice thanks to a late night out by hs parents yet another thing Ry chalked up to blaming on himself, his fault he should have taken better care of Josi. But he hadnt.
As time went on Ry suffered in the orphanage but struggled to see the bright side often even succeeding believing there to be good behind every tragedy, and after a few years of that at the age of eighteen he was proven right as he was proven right as a artic fox bite him promplty changing him into something more than a human and he loved it. Loved the freedom it supplied.
Things got even better about a year ago when Josi showed back up in his life and he discovered his parents had only let him think she had died to seperate the two of them, so that they no longer had to care for them. Now here the two are taking care of each other, happy and content for the first time in years despite there many differences and problems.
I don't feel sorry for him. At all. Try harder. Some realism would be nice. And some grammar. Also, this is just a peeve of mine as someone who made some attempt at doing research about children given up for adoption besides just going off Oliver Twist stereotypes--I'm pretty sure that there are almost no more orphanages in America, except for one or two that I don't remember the names/locations of. It's adoption agencies for babies, and foster care for older kids, or at least that's what I remember.
And just a minor thing that made me snerk, then raise an eyebrow, was the vampire chick who was 666 years old (that was where I snerked) had her occupation listed as having been an adult entertainment star when she was alive. Given that she was alive hundreds of years ago...y'know, I realize some form of porn has probably pretty much always been around, but something tells me they didn't exactly think that one through when they wrote it down.
