Er....Am I in the wrong room?

Okay, so finally after eight long years of completely scrapping my old Mary Sue characters and learning to RP, I step back into the ring to try an RP I loved as a kid. Unfortunate results, very unfortunate results.

So, a bit of background as to why I think the bad result is karma. So when I was a pre-teen, I was just like most of the stereotypical weird pre-teens out there. The ones who latch onto a character and make a Mary Sue for them because they're lonely and the cool kids don't like them because they're into 'odd' things in the first place. Suffice to say, a crappy little skidmark suburb in PA where half the elementary school kids were watching whatever my age group's equivalent of Hannah Montana was and another slightly smaller group was into rappers and other stuff like that, a tiny minority was into stuff everyone else thought was nerdy. Videogames, anime, roleplay, cosplay, building awesome robots for gifted program fairs...that was my group. Unfortunately, almost every pre-teen girl who is in that sort of group, falls into the dreaded Mary Sue trap and I was no different.

In my case, it was....well...excuse me while I prepare to be laughed off the face of the earth and possibly shot, Chibodee from G Gundam. That's right, the dude with pink and blue hair. I RPed as him but when I couldn't because it was supposed to be next generation, I RPed as his god-awful, irredeemable Mary Sue daughter.

Now that that's out of the way, the minute I realized what I had done about a year later I started basically ripping the monster I'd created apart and building a new one. He was an ordinary, likable character with flaws and also things that made him special but not too special or unique in the fandom. Finally, Ryan Crockett was born and he was awesome.

Ready to take him for a test run, I advertised that I wanted to do that sort of RP. It did not end well. It appears that while I grew out of making horrible, unoriginal Sues, a lot of the fandom did not. Now it wasn't that they were the children of canon characters, that was sort of the premise, it was the next generation of fighters and all, so it's to be expected that would happen. My issue was the unoriginal gundam ideas, I kid you not, almost every girl character had a recolor of Allenby's Nobel Gundam even if they weren't from Neo Sweden and they all had mobile trace suits that would make a stripper ashamed and probably wouldn't serve their purpose.

The guy characters were worse, they were all invincible and super powered in every way and I never got one interested party who wasn't from Neo Japan.

To make matters worse, it appears you can't find an RP ANYWHERE that does no focus solely on sex and romance. Here's two exchanges, one from a male character and one from a female. This is just the gist of the IC conversation, it was RPed in paragraph form.
RC= Ryan Crockett(my character)
DK= Domon knock-off (the other player's character)

RC: Hey, just because our fathers were friends doesn't mean we have to be friends. I kind of think you take this Gundam Fight thing way too seriously, I didn't even want to do it.

DK: So, you're not into girls?

RC: Wait, what? How'd that come up? When did I ever hint that?

DK: You're not dating any of your crew.

RC: Yeah, and?

DK: Your dad married one of his crew.

RC: Yeah, my mom, Janet, so?

DK: Are you gay?

RC OOC: (Hey, uh, how is this relevant to our previous conversation?)

DK OOC: (Well, there needs to be romance for there to be conflict.)

RC OOC: (So a Gundam Fight that the space colonies' government is now trying to rig, the fact that my character doesn't want to fight and the fact that your character resents his father for not letting him fight at first isn't enough conflict?)

DK OOC: (Look, you RP yaoi, right? Aren't all your RPs yaoi?)

RC OOC: (Well, no, and to be honest I wasn't looking this time for that...)

At which point the person playing the character got angry, said I didn't know the basics of RP that there should always be romance and left.

Now the situation with a female character. Again, RC and RC OOC are me. She'll be referred to as Gundam Stripperiffic or GS/ GS OOC.

So, a bit of background, GS and RC are about to Gundam fight. GS is from Neo Japan just like the last one, but she's gone the half-naked hentai grade Japanese schoolgirl route with this, describing her current outfit as a skirt that barely covers her ass, a tiny schoolgirl blouse and purple hair in pigtails.

GS: Konichiwa, Ryan-san.

RC: Um...are you really my opponent? You kind of remind me of this magazine my mom threw out once. I think it was my dad's.

GS: Isn't my outfit so kawaii?

RC: I don't understand that word.

GS: It means cute, my outfit is cute.

RC: Er...I don't know what you hope to accomplish, but could you please wear a whole outfit next time, this is very awkward...

GS: Why, you want to do it?

RC: Oh..uh...wait...do what?

GS: You know, make love?

RC: Actually, no...see...we're supposed to be having a Gundam fight and I don't think the US government would like that too much, er...fraternization and all that stuff....er....I'm gonna just summon up my Gundam then...

GS OOC: (No! Our characters are the only ones in the RP!)

RC OOC: (Well, yes, that tends to be the case in one on one messenger RPs...)

GS OOC: (So what the hell? There needs to be sex! I thought this was an RP!)

RC OOC: (Well, it isn't an ERP...I just kind of wanted to do a G Gundam setting with a bit of plot...I'm kind of sick of RPs that play out like a bad porno.)

GS gets offended, signs off and presumably blocks me since she never signed back on.

Why does every RP with people have to be about relationships and sex? Can't we ever just do an RP about giant fighting robots ripping eachother's heads off for the glory of their space nation? Also, I think GS was running on the assumption that Ryan is just like Chibodee and therefore a perverted playboy. The RP isn't a generation xerox, though, Ryan is completely different, he's quiet, sort of shy, insecure and probably asexual. He might be bi, actually, but it's just he doesn't like people throwing themselves at him and he as a character, if there were to be any RP romance, needs to fall in love naturally over time.

TL;DR: When did my RP about giant fighting robots become about gayngst and random schoolgirl hentai?

weeabootastic, how not to roleplay, characterization fail
