Realistically, a player can be good or bad, regardless of how well they can write an app. I'm well aware of this. I've seen amazing players who failed hard in their app and vice versa, so I'm not saying that it's "necessary" for an application to include an analytical essay in the personality section or a novel for a sample.

And hey, if you enjoy reading garbage for amusement, you're one of the lucky ones. Having read over numerous apps, I'll say that the first few bad ones are amusing. After that, it's torture. And sometimes, you don't even reject them outright because you're reading over the whole mess looking for that one redeeming thing that might make you say, "Ah, okay. They might not suck."

Would this be an easier process with leaner apps? Maybe. But I feel like the more detailed the picture, the better chance of the player reflecting intensive knowledge of their character. And while this may not necessarily mean they're a good player right off the bat, I'm gonna go ahead and say that the better you know their character, the better you'll play them, when all is said and done.

Truly awful profiles (We don't have "apps" in the application sense. Just character profiles- we don't demand samples, and the only time you apply to play is for a canon character, and not an original.) are really rare. Ones I think are dumb, or slightly sue-y? They happen.

But terrible ragey profiles? Rare.

It's more common for me to feel mildly annoyed- because if they meet guidelines, they get approved, cut and dry.

But I guess I RP where I do because it's unlike the other places where I had awful experiences (hello crazy HP fandom~). I came onto an RP with an "adopted" character that had a name, a face, a built in friend in the RP, two personality traits and an occupation. Almost three years later, and the character profile I have is now several pages long, and pretty well thought out. But I'm one of those crazy people who "gets to know" their characters and hears them in their head all the time, and doesn't believe in writing how I want, but rather how the character wants, and so on. Clearly it's all YMMV and what not, but if you had asked me three years ago to write up what I know about my character now, I might've looked at you like your head had fallen off. xD
