I know my limits, and starting my own site is beyond them. I don't have the time to run it right, and I don't want to wind up on this board. :D

Although I admit the idea is seriously, seriously tempting right now...

I wouldn't wait on a site like this. Personally, I would be HORRIFIED if I had to take my board down; we send complaints to our host when we're down for 5 minutes. Major changes to a board can be done in increments. Graphics changes and updates can be done LIVE.

I wouldn't wait either - if it wasn't the site I looooooooooooooove, with the people I love playing with, and the characters I just started to play again.

Meh. I may bail anyway. Sucks to find the site again after a long absence, get all excited, submit an app, and wham, site goes down for a month.

I empathize completely. I run a site that's both MBs and chatrooms -- my own creation -- and I'm in the process of revamping it from the inside out, a long and extremely arduous process.

I swore up and down that I would not touch ANYTHING on the original site until the replacement was a complete, feature-for-feature match for the original. A lot of people were, I think, scared of something close to what's being described here.
