I roleplay as anthropormophic animals, from time to time. That places me in the 'furry' fandom, but you're not going to find me in a fursuit anytime soon. I like being human!
I do know fursuiters, but most of them would never even imagine trying to do anything sexual in 'em - they're giant mascot costumes covered in fur. You'd overheat! And they'd be expensive to dryclean, too ( ... )

The Short Version of her rant: Anthros- people who either play anthro chars or like anthro art. Fursuiters- those who do mascot-type things; they just like fuzzy and cute. (I have great respect for them, but I firmly believe they're all insane.) Furries- DX, go away, we don't want you!

There's nothing wrong with that, or with the label. Some people are just more insane about it than others - rather like fundamentalists or radical religious folk.
You might get lumped in with the crazy mouthspouters that you keep hearing about initially, but ultimately, it's your own behavior that determines how people will look at you, and through your behavior that they'll judge the rest of the people in the group.
