Just doesn't care anymore

This rider used to have a solid position and a very admirable attitude with her horses but I feel like now she just kinda flings things together and puts it up on youtube without a second thought. Her legs slide around all over the place and she jabs her horse in the flanks with her spurs. What makes this bad_riding worthy isn't the fact that her ( Read more... )

I can not believe there are people with enough spare time on their hands to be creating pages slagging off other peoples riding I do believe you may only comment on the ability of another rider if 1) you are qualified to do so and 2) if you are evidently better, the poor young girl in the video is clearly proud of her young green horse jumping so well (with every right I would be over the moon to own such a horse) and has uploaded a video I assume to show to friends and family and anyone else who wishes to view it, and since you all seem SOOO offended I suggest you don't view it anymore. By posting it on here and slating her riding you are only giving the video more hits which I'm sure you would dislike. This is a form of bullying, the girl in the video is a young girl to whom I assume has high hopes of competing and for people like the above to waste their time being nasty and telling the world she is a bad person is disgusting! I have every right to report this to a higher authority. Have any of you considered the young girl in question might be struggling with the transition to a big horse with a big scope of a jump? I look forward to the above people uploading their own videos so we may all comment of their faults that would only be fair, right? If the welfare of the horse is what concerns you the most then might you might wish to ask your selves, does the horse look happy? is the horse willing to jump? does the horse strongly detest the uses of spurs? in my eyes that is a very happy young horse learning from his mistakes with a rider who is looking to progress with her and I personally think you all should keep your opinions to your selves, you NASTY people!
that is all x

You might not want to stick around here then. I'm pretty sure that's what we're all about here on Bad_Riding. xD

Her riding in and of itself is not the issue. In fact, I think she is a very good rider.

It's her pissy attitude and the fact that she's jumping babies. Bottom line is, she's a great rider, but an awful horsewoman. That's why people are upset.

Also you should not be commenting on her on this page if she is a great rider, please create another page called "awful horsewomanship" and continue
Thanks

This community encompasses bad riding and bad horsemanship as a whole.

I am a vet tech at my local equine hospital. We see a lot of young horses pushed too early break down later on. It's very devestating to inform an owner that their 8yo imported wb is only going to remain pasture sound. I suggest you (and the featured rider) pick up a scientific article on the matter. Sometimes, they're a difficult read but it is worth it.

ok then "vet Tech" i am a final year degree student (equine science) so i am familiar with scientific articles on the subject and no where has any one reported that jumping a horse at four years old is a direct result to later problems, i proudly own a bsja mare she is now 10 i have competed her through the levels since she was 4 and wow i still do so surely correct management and careful ownership is the answer, and since in said videos the horse is being jumped on a good surface i dont see what grounds you have.

Then it should be common knowledge to you that a horse's hocks and growth plates don't fully close until 5 years old. Even longer in taller horses and geldings. The soft tissue and tendons still have yet to be fully mature. Not every horse that is jumped early will break down but the risk is significantly higher.

It's not even been 3 months since the horse in the vid was backed and he is a very large warmblood. She should be focusing on establishing a solid foundation on the flat at this point.

if you are in an equine science program and you still think that jumping babies too high and too early has no direct effect on their soundness later in life, you are either 1) not in a very good program or 2) not paying very close attention.

Some people get lucky, and their horse never shows adverse affects. Doens't mean that's the norm or that we should all run out and rush our youngsters.

Oh this too, completely what I was thinking. What the heck Equine science program are you in for that to be acceptable? I did an Equine Science program too.... we were thought jumping babies too high too fast was.... wait for it.... wrong and not good for the horses!! I work on horses, and have seen the harm that it can do!!

i don't know if you know but a degree isn't a program......(clearly a nationality barrier)
and i don't consider how i care for my horse to be luck, its called management and the horse had to begin jumping at some time she isn't at Badminton or even putting the horse under a large amount of strain, the horse is as everyone keeps telling my "big" 16hh 3 the height of jump is big but it is a big horse there is no point jumping the horse over pony jumps as everyone keeps saying she should the horse needs to be subjected to an appropriate height for its size one to prepare its body for competition. The video is one day in the horses life she hasnt as far as im aware posted plural (if she has i take this back) videos of her competing in x amounts of classes on young horse, and since you all appose to "babies" in england we back horse at the age of 4, and in the racing industry 2 and 3 year olds are raced if this is such a major concern to people stop ganging up on one person and get off your bums and protest at big racing events which is where the true damage to horses is done.....?????

no one is condoning racing horses at young ages, but jumping them this young is equally as damaging. And yes the height of the horse DOES matter, larger horses like this fellow actually need MORE time than smaller horses because their bodies mature slower. Horses live for a long time, there's really no reason to rush a 4 y/o into jumping big jumps. You work him up slowly until he is physically and mentally capable of jumping at the height you want to compete him at.

and here in the US, most (responsible) people also break/do W/T/C their horses at 3.5/4 years old. But jumping anything larger than a caveletti should wait until the horse is physically developed and also until he is mentally ready for it- the horse in the video can't even trot a straight line, he shouldn't be jumping 2'3". Also, if she's competing him at this height, it's safe to assume she's schooling him at this height or larger, which is very damaging.

Apparently finding a scientific article on the matter is as hard as a google search.

The girl in the video is an adult. The number of hits a video gets is beside the point anyway. There are videos up on youtube of people getting hit by cars that score millions of hits. Doesn't make it right. The reason she is featured on here is due to the fact that her ego weighs more than her horses' welfare.
