re: the last photo - except you can see blood covering the left hind hoof of the horse. Makes me think there's a leg injury there (we all know how badly those bleed).

Looks like maybe he got his foot under the gate since there's quite a bit of blood on the gate.

The first photo: exactly. She's not reefing on his face or even tight on the reins, so it doesn't look bad to me. My horse tosses her head the same way if she wants to get going.

Seeing as it's a gaming horse and they were probably just about to do a run, yeah - his head is high - but she's not close to yanking. So, I agree with you. My old horse who I did poles with, used to throw his head in the air and jump when the signal was given; so I understand this completely. She could have probably used a tie-down to have not had this happen, but some horses just don't like them...

To me, that first picture looks like a girl in an arena, and on a longshot, seems like a barrel racer and most of those horses go nuts when they're in an arena ready to run barrels.
