rearing madness under cut
I am in college and therefore, have a Facebook that I spend way too much time on. I found this in one of my horse groups with the caption, "My crazy ass horse General really likes to rear...mainly cuz I do too!!!". I think this is crazy. Maybe it's just me because I have a history with rearing. My family and I ended up having to sell my Training eventer when I was in high school because he began rearing when I'd school dressage. Basically, as we moved up the levels and things got harder, he got worse and worse with rearing and eventually flipped over one day when I asked him to trot. We had all sorts of vets from our home state Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and even a specialist come in from Texas to look at his back and legs and check him for neurological problems or anything they could think of. We cracked an egg on his head when he reared (it's supposed to make them think they hit their head), we got him every fleece back pad, fuzzy girth and cooshy saddle pad on the market thinking he was in pain somewhere. I mean, we even had a horse psychic try to talk to him. It was the most miserable process ever that ended in every single person we consulted telling us that Cooper had learned to rear when he didn't want to do what was being asked and we basically could not stop him. I can't tell you how much it sucked to have to sell a horse that we were told could have done a great deal more than Training level to a woman who promised us she'd only trail ride him just so that he'd never hurt anyone else or be upset enough to start rearing again. It still bothers me that we couldn't help Cooper and I just can't imagine encouraging my horse to rear. I just hope that this girl doesn't get hurt.
