Art is part of a balanced breakfast

At the moment, in addition to Yahweh & Son, I'm working as a sleepover caregiver for a very nice man at a retirement home. I help him to bed, sleep nearby in case he needs anything, then help him get up and go to breakfast in the morning.

Since he eats slowly, whereas I inhale my food, I usually finish about fifteen minutes before he does. A couple days ago, while waiting (since it's hard to chat with someone while they eat oatmeal) I idly sketched a picture of a man in profile on my paper placemat. The next morning, a few of the servers complimented me on my drawing. I was so surprised and pleased, I drew a (frankly terrible, but hey, it was early in the morning) cartoon of Superman saying, "[Retirement home] has good food and great people! You can trust me on that, 'cuz I'm Superman!" I figured whoever cleaned up the placemat would get a chuckle out of it.

Well, this morning when I sat down for breakfast, one of the servers actually brought the picture over -- they had snipped it off the placemat -- and asked me to sign it! I did, adding "I love your fried eggs." Then the cook came out and complimented my drawing, and I complimented her cooking (not idly either -- I hate eggs, but have been eating them every day.)

It was a really good morning.
