Saturday Update (or, how to be busy without doing anything)

Feb 25, 2006 23:00

So I haven't been posting much lately besides showing off my shiny Irregular Webcomic userpics. I know, your hearts have been yearning for my update. Here I am to assuage your pain!

Seriously, I've been quite busy, but not with anything worth talking about. Classes are going well with a very light course load: two math (calc III and differential equations), intro to computer science, and the weight lifting. Which has its own annoyances, but they are pedantic and mainly deal with Smith machines and neon-colored wimp weights and the word "toning."

I am working two jobs at the moment, four full days of security and five partial days at an accounting firm. Having no days off isn't as bad as it sounds -- both jobs are mainly sitting and amusing yourself -- but it means constantly being confused about what day of the week it is. I haven't shown up at class on the wrong day or anything yet, but we know it's only a matter of time.

Been listening to old NPR shows a lot at work; having exhausted the archives of This American Life, I'm on Wait Wait -- Don't Tell Me! It's a little cognitive dissonance hearing six month old news talked about as "just this week," but it's still entertaining. I wish P.J. O'Rourke was on there more often, though. And Charlie Pierce is really growing on me, entirely on the basis of his laugh. Heh. Dork.

(Speaking of NPR, can I just complain that while I love the idea of Says You, every single thing about the execution bothers me? But I always listen to it? DORK!)

The only other real piece of note is that I'm back on Zoloft. Did you know it's also used to treat severe PMS? Me neither! The wonders of modern medicine. Get a new ailment, use your old prescription.

Oh, and the cry-count on this year's Super Bowl was five (down one from last year). All I can remember now were the Sports Heaven (which gets me EVERY TIME, and it's not even sad, what the hell), the Dove self-esteem commerical, and the one with the little baby Hummer. So cute! No comparison to the Animal Planet Kitten Halftime Show, though. Oh my god. I thought I would die.

And that's the news, to pause and muse.
