I am a deaf asshole.
This is not a new subject for me, but it's occurred to me just now that all of you on my friend list are hearing and so this rant may be new to you. I have a whole new audience to dazzle.
It annoys the PISS out of me that Spanish is taught in nearly every high school, but hardly any of them teach ASL. Why the fuck are people learning a foreign language before an English one? Why is it so silly to cover your sister language before anything else? Is it foolish of me to wonder?
Not that I have anything against learning different languages. Just learn the American ones first, people.
Now, perhaps some of you know me better then that and you are saying to yourself, "You are being a shit faced hypocrite, BJ. You refuse to learn how to speak, why should we learn to flap our hands about in such a spastic way just to communicate with you? Fuck off."
And you would be correct.
BUT the issue here is not forcing people to learn sign. It's making an American Language more available then a foreign one. It doesn't mean I hate Mexicans. I find their food yummy and enjoy their Selma Hayek very much... is she mexican? I love mariachi pants anyway.
