Title: Creatures of the Night
Author: Me
Rating: PG-13 for scary scary vampires! *hiss* Oh, and a bit of romance, hooray ;)
Pairing: John/Graham, with a mention of Michael/TerryJ
Warnings: crack, total AU, vampires, etc etc
Summary: John and Graham meet on a London rooftop.
Author's Note: rayshell22 and I were swapping ideas when she suggested, and I quote, “a John/Graham AU fic where the Pythons are good-hearted, non-angsty vampires.” I twisted it a teensy bit (you’ll see why), but it felt good to get back to old school vampirism. Not like the rubbish we see today in our bookstores. >w< Enjoy!

Sure, it has its limitations. No more watching the sunrise; looking the other way whenever he happens past a church; being wary of deli sandwiches, lest they contain any garlic; avoiding mirrors; the works.

But oh, is it worth it.

Moonlit walks along the night's Plutonian shore. Feeling as though you could gather all the stars into your hand. Seeing that dark, frail beauty that only things of the night possess.

Like Graham.

This particular evening, John finds him atop a nondescript building, toting a glass of gin in one hand and a book in the other. It completely escapes John how he could read when h e had the wondrous landscape of London town before him. A marvel of moonlight, headlights, and lamplight, glowing orange like fireflies on every corner and in the river.

John's come to appreciate fireflies with his new perspective on life. They never choose to have a bio luminescent bum, but they glow anyway.

"What's that you're reading?" The cool wind feels pleasant on his pale cheek.

"Rubbish," Gray replies casually before tossing it over his shoulder. John sees an apple reflected on the cover before it drops into a shadow. "By the way, what happened with Mike and Terry?"

"Put it this way - now they're both 'howling mad' for each other." John can't help but grin at such uplifting knowledge.

Graham turns and returns the smile, his teeth glinting and his arms outstretched. "Excellent! Now we just need to turn Eric and Gilliam into pixies and let them have at it."

Their bright, strong laughter rings in the air as John strides forward into the embrace, taking the opportunity to lift his friend off the ground and spinning him around a few times. Having fun despite their...ahem, lifestyle is always high on their priority list.

All sorts of fun.

Setting him down but still holding him close, John closes his eyes and lets the remainder of his senses absorb what they can of Graham. He smells like the cozy warmth of home and the gin he's been drinking; the alcohol they don't need to drink anymore, but Graham does it just to fill his blood with a flavor that drives John crazy.

Speaking of which...John feels Graham's mouth moving down his neck, testing the waters. The glass of gin seems to have mysteriously disappeared, for the hand that was holding it is fiddling absentmindedly with John's open collar.

"Oh, must we? Here?"

Graham gives no answer, just dropping a kiss on the usual spot and lapping at it with the tip of his tongue.

"Oi!" John pulls his head back roughly, giving him a stern look.

Graham looks back at him, wide-eyed and innocent. "But I thought we were celebrating!"

"We are, it's just..." John glances at their surroundings. "Is a dingy rooftop in downtown London the ideal place to celebrate?"

Graham smiles sheepishly. "Guess not."

"Shall we go somewhere, then? My place, yours...?"

"Let's go to your place. Some kids egged mine during the day!"

"How rude!" They were teasing each other now. "So much for respecting your elders."

"Indeed." They smile at each other once more...

...and then the change starts.

It's not the most elegant way to travel, true, but John loves it. No awkward arms or legs to deal with; just you and your heart and the wind beneath your wings. It's wonderful.

Bats aren't the most beautiful creatures, either. But John is able to look at Graham and still recognize him as such. Bats normally don't have adorable baby blue eyes as well, as far as he knows.

The moonlight leads them on to their destination and beyond. The starlight glitters as their hearts beat as one.

The night blesses and guards those who would use her magic for the ones they love.
