Among a sea of grass

Jeremy and I escaped for a weekend of trail riding in Terre Haute. While we didn't spend hours upon hours in the saddle, we had a wonderful time and the horses thought they had died and gone to heaven.

I brought Doc up with us because I wanted to go trail riding with Jeremy and, of course, Dash is retired. Therefore, it would be kind of hard for both of us to ride without bringing another horse along. Saturday was actually a very peaceful horsie day as they all got to laze about in their pastures until evening. Jeremy and I did manage a quick ride just before the sun went down, but the real riding was saved for Sunday. It was a hot and sunny day, but a nice breeze was in the air as well, keeping us comfortable and chipper. We struck off around the lake as usual, but after crossing the damn, I turned onto some old trails in the woods. We dipped down into a ravine, came out the other side, and then stepped down into a beautiful hay field. The grass came up to Sam's eyes! It was like putting two kids in a candy store with unlimited funds--how could we tell the horse no when the grass was snackable on th go?

Even Joon and Tugger tagged along and had a good time in the hay field!

After weaving through the hay field, we cantered along the edges of the corn fields and then dipped back down into the woods. There were a few tough patches down there for a blind horse--a sticky, muddy ravine followed by a sharp--but short--incline. Jeremy just pointed Sam in the right direction and kept his leg on while I talked them through it. Sam walked toward my voice and listened to my every command--"Step, step, step. Good boy!" It's nice to have "remote handling" of your blind pony in such situations!

We continued to weave through the woods and the fields and then came back by the house and the lake for a cool down and a post-trail snap shot.

And, because we can't possibly leave Dash out, here's a couple from his Bath, which he thoroughly enjoyed!
