What is your absolute favorite horseback riding memory (so far at least!)?

My best horseback riding memory is also one of my best memories of all time.

When I was in college I used to exercise Arabian endurance horses for a woman with a large string of endurance racehorses. She would always find volunteer riders here and there and 3X a week we would take the horses out and trot, trot, TROT for hours to condition them.

My favorite was a Quarab named Sierra Jahol (Holly). That's him in the icon, thoroughly embarrassed from all the wild irises I decorated his bridle with. ;)

One evening I went out with a small group, just me on Holly and two other riders whom I had developed friendships with over the miles. We stayed out late and it was dark by the time we realized we needed to head back to the barn.

We rode the horses home at a walk under a BRILLIANTLY bright full moon. One section of the trail was overgrown with Scott's Broom (large flowering bush that grows wild around here), the bushes were almost taller than the horses' heads on either side of the trail.

Since Holly was a dark bay he all but vanished in the dark of night. Riding along on him was like floating through the air!

As it happened, Holly and I were sandwiched between two grey (turned snowy white) Arabians. The white of their coats shone as if they were nightlights powered by the bright shining moon.

With the moon shining down and reflecting off the horse in front of me, and the horse behind me, I could see EVERYTHING really well (the yellow flowers on the Scott's Broom for example) but I could barely see Holly's dark bay coat so it was like something out of a sci-fi movie where I was floating along the ground with beautiful light all around me!
