A big thank you! And an update! And more questions!

Thanks to all who answered my questions about my ribby yet pot bellied three year old colt, Prince.

I will talk to my vet about the purging and do a fecal sample test to see if he does maybe have worms that won't be knocked out with a regular worming routine. She's coming to give spring shots soon anyway. I keep him with four other mares. They don't have this issue. Is it possible for just him to be infested with worms and not the others? It just seems strange to me.

As for feed, I'm kinda limited. I buy from TSC (nearest feed store) and they only carry four brands it seems. Dumor, Platform, Producer's Pride and Blue Seal. Platform is WAY expensive and Producer's Pride seems to be the cheap stuff so I am thinking about going with either Blue Seal or Dumor. I found a feed in both brands that might be good for my boy. I figure I'll soak and mix some beet pulp with that as well since it is universally recognized as a really good fat builder. They also have several different brands of powdered weight builders. Do you think it is OK to do mix one of the powdered weight builders in with the feed and beet pulp or is that too much? And if you would do one or the other, which would you do? I feel silly asking all these feed questions but it is undoubtably where I am weakest in horse knowledge. I'm terrible at math and all the percent this and percent that confuses the living daylights out of me!

My electric fence is almost done and I can finally move my horses to my property! Hopefully this Sunday. I'm really looking forward to it. There are trails accessible right off the property and a stable at the bottom of the road. I spoke to the barn owner/trainer and she is awesome. We have good friends in common. She is willing to let me ride my own horses down for lessons. And I asked her about training my colt. She is older and doesn't "break" (ick, I hate that word! I prefer "gentle") horses anymore but she found out that I am willing to get on my horses for the first time. She apparently has a horse that needs that first ride or ten and so we might be able to work something out with her training my three year old to jump and me training her boy to accept a rider. Weeee! I am way excited. I am going to expand my riding knowledge a bit. I'm pretty good at Western, Saddle Seat, Hunt Seat, and Driving. I've never done Dressage or formal Jumping. I'm going to try that. And brush up on my Hunt Seat. I am WAY excited :D Just had to share.

riding lessons, taking care of baby, prince, eyes on me
